A Multimodal Positive Computing System For Public Speaking written by Fiona Dermody and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with categories.

A fear of public speaking can have a significant impact on an individual's success in enterprise and education. This thesis presents a new, multimodal, digital system which enables users to practise their public speaking skills and gives them visual feedback in real time. It has been developed within the paradigm of Positive Computing, an interdisciplinary paradigm for human-computer interaction. Positive Computing has a number of themes including competence, self-awareness, stress-reduction and autonomy. The term 'multimodal' refers to the fact that the system detects multiple speaking modes in the speaker such as their gestures, voice and eye contact. The user can select if they want to receive feedback on all speaking modes or a subset of them. The system consists of a Microsoft Kinect 1 connected to a laptop. The Microsoft Kinect, a 3D depth camera, is used to sense the user's body movements, facial expressions and voice. The user stands in front of the system and speaks. Users can choose to see themselves represented on the screen as either an avatar or live video. Real-time feedback is superimposed on their chosen representation in proximity to the area it relates to. The purpose of the feedback is to make the user aware of their speaking behaviour. The feedback is non-directive as the user can choose if they want to modify their behaviour. This system gives users the potential to develop skill and confidence before speaking in front of a live human audience. Users have reported that they enjoy using the system and can see its benefits. Results and descriptions of all user testing are reported in detail in this thesis.

In recent times there has been growing interest in positive psychology as evidenced by the swell in positive psychology graduate programs, undergraduate courses, journals related to the topic, popular book titles on the topic and scholarly publications. Within the positive psychology community there has been an increased emphasis on the socially beneficial side of positive psychological science. At the First World Congress of the International Positive Psychology Association there was a major push to look at positive psychology as a social change mechanism. This volume will bring together thoughts of leaders in positive psychology from 8 countries to capitalize on the push toward social change and flourishing. By releasing this title at a critical time Springer has the opportunity to help frame the agenda for positive psychology as a force for social change. This seminal work is meant for anyone interested in happiness, strengths, flourishing or positive institutions It introduces Positive Psychology as an unapplied science that can be used to create positive social transformation and enabling institutions. This is a must-have title for academics, especially psychologists, sociologists, economists, and professionals working in the field of Positive Psychology and Well-Being.

Emotions and Affect in Human Factors and Human–Computer Interaction is a complete guide for conducting affect-related research and design projects in H/F and HCI domains. Introducing necessary concepts, methods, approaches, and applications, the book highlights how critical emotions and affect are to everyday life and interaction with cognitive artifacts. The text covers the basis of neural mechanisms of affective phenomena, as well as representative approaches to Affective Computing, Kansei Engineering, Hedonomics, and Emotional Design. The methodologies section includes affect induction techniques, measurement techniques, detection and recognition techniques, and regulation models and strategies. The application chapters discuss various H/F and HCI domains: product design, human–robot interaction, behavioral health and game design, and transportation. Engineers and designers can learn and apply psychological theories and mechanisms to account for their affect-related research and can develop their own domain-specific theory. The approach outlined in this handbook works to close the existing gap between the traditional affect research and the emerging field of affective design and affective computing. Provides a theoretical background of affective sciences Demonstrates diverse affect induction methods in actual research settings Describes sensing technologies, such as brain–computer interfaces, facial expression detection, and more Covers emotion modeling and its application to regulation processes Includes case studies and applied examples in a variety of H/F and HCI application areas Addresses emerging interdisciplinary areas including Positive Technology, Subliminal Perception, Physiological Computing, and Aesthetic Computing
