Inquiry Based Teaching And Learning Across Disciplines written by Gillian Kidman and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-10 with Education categories.
This research-based book dissects and explores the meaning and nature of Inquiry in teaching and learning in schools, challenging existing concepts and practices. In particular, it explores and contests prevailing attitudes about the practice of inquiry-based learning across the Science, Geography and History disciplines, as well as focusing on the importance of the role of teacher in what is frequently criticised as being a student-controlled activity. Three frameworks, which are argued to be necessarily intertwined for discipline-specific literacy, guide this inquiry work: the classroom goals; the instructional approach; and the degree of teacher direction. The foundation of the analysis is the notion of educational inquiry as it is structured in the Australian Curriculum, along with the locating of the study in international trends in inquiry learning over time. It will be of great interest to researchers, higher degree students and practicing professionals working in Education and Sociology.

Project Based Learning In Second Language Acquisition written by Adrian Gras-Velazquez and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-25 with Education categories.
This book showcases pedagogical tools for learning languages through interdisciplinary project-based learning (PBL). Chapters demonstrate a diverse range of PBL activities that help students build communities of practice within classroom settings, and across local and global communities. Too often, learning a language can become a static endeavor, confined to a classroom and a singular discipline. But language is dynamic and fluid no matter the setting in which learning takes place. In acknowledging this, this volume explores how PBL and community-engagement pedagogies serve to combine learning goals and community service in ways that enhance student growth and facilitate second language development in an interdisciplinary, multilingual, and multicultural higher education learning environment. Chapters touch on activities and approaches including spoken-word poetry, environmental projects, social activism, study abroad, and in-service learning. This book will be of interest to researchers, academics, and postgraduate students in the fields of language education, second language acquisition, higher education, and comparative and international education.

Decoding the Disciplines, a program designed to help instructors increase learning in their courses, provides a framework for identifying and remedying course elements that are most problematic for students. Decoding is a seven-step process in which instructors: 1. identify a bottleneck of learning, 2. make explicit the mental operations required to overcome the obstacle, 3. model the required steps for students, 4. give them practice at these skills, 5. deal with emotional bottlenecks that interfere with learning, 6. assess the success of their efforts, and 7. share the results. Providing detailed information so that readers may develop effective models of practice, this volume provides examples and evidence of the ways the framework has been applied across disciplines and used to inform teaching, curriculum, and pedagogical research initiatives. It outlines how various communities of practice got started, describes the analyses of three different collections of Decoding interviews, extends the Decoding framework using different theoretical lenses, and connects the learning to practical applications for teachers and scholars in higher education. This is the 150th volume of this Jossey-Bass higher education series. It offers a comprehensive range of ideas and techniques for improving college teaching based on the experience of seasoned instructors and the latest findings of educational and psychological researchers.
