Today organizations of all kinds implement projects. Further, as the importance of the projects grow, management of the same also becomes crucial in terms of monitoring and controlling. However, as non-project based organizations lack distinctive project management approach, their project are controlled and monitored by the inherent management control system. While, several studies have highlighted that different organization control mechanisms are exercised at varying degree, there is a dearth of study done in project context. Further, as several studies in the project management context highlight the need to tailor the approach according to the project types, this study focuses on understanding how the control mechanisms vary across different types of projects executed by non-project based organizations. A qualitative study was conducted with eight project managers of respective projects implemented by seven companies from China and Nepal where distinct organizational control mechanisms dominated distinct project types in rolling out successful projects. The outcome may be important for anyone seeking to explore the domain of project governance for better management of projects.

Statistical Techniques For Project Control written by Adedeji B. Badiru and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-18 with Business & Economics categories.

Winner of the IIE Book of the Month for June 2012 A project can be simple or complex. In each case, proven project management processes must be followed. In all cases of project management implementation, control must be exercised in order to assure that project objectives are achieved. Statistical Techniques for Project Control seamlessly integrates qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques for project control. It fills the void that exists in the application of statistical techniques to project control. The book begins by defining the fundamentals of project management then explores how to temper quantitative analysis with qualitative human judgment that makes project control nebulous but also offers opportunities to innovate and be creative in achieving control. The authors then discuss the three factors (time, budget, and performance) that form the basis of the operating characteristics of a project that also help determine the basis for project control. They then focus on computational network techniques for project schedule (time) control. Although designed as a practical guide for project management professionals, the book also appeals to students, researchers, and instructors.

Project Control Literature Review written by Shai Rozenes and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Control categories.

Although many researchers have studied how project managers can use project control systems to minimize the gap between project planning and project implementation and to realize a product that meets a client's goals, the field lacks a survey of these studies. This article reviews the current literature on project control systems. In doing so, it overviews project management's primary bodies of knowledge (BoK), looking at arguments for and arguments against using each BoK's approach when managing different types of projects. It defines the purpose of project control systems, explains the nature and significance of project control, and explores several methods for identifying project control rules, methods that include analyzing project failures and assessing project threats. It also describes the tools and techniques--as well as the advantages and disadvantages--involved in practicing project control, looking at systems that support multidimensional objectives and the purposes of--and the differences between--the one-dimensional and multidimensional project control. It discusses research on improving project control methods, research that integrates into project control such dimensions as total quality management (TQM), theory of constraint (TOC), and risk management. It describes a recently developed control methodology known as the multidimensional project control system (MPCS). It concludes by summarizing this study's six findings.
