Learn how to perform project management according to international standards of compliance using capability assessment processes. This book compares and contrasts the approach to project management using ISO 21500 against the more direct ISO 33000 Capability Assessment. It shows how to assess projects adequately for process improvement or how well an organization performs against a standard, measurable framework. Using ISO 21500 as the project management reference point and ISO 15504/33000 as the capability assessment reference, the book shows you how to assess whether your projects are being run according to a specific capability level or support them to reach higher levels of capability.

Today's project managers find themselves in the dual roles of technical expert and business leader. As project management has evolved, the need has emerged for an organizational entity to manage complexities and ensure alignment with business interests. A project management office (PMO) coordinates technical and business facets of project management and achieves the goals of oversight, control, and support within the project management environment. The Complete Project Management Office Handbook identifies the PMO as the essential business integrator of the people, processes, and tools that manage or influence project performance. This book details how the PMO applies professional project management practices and successfully integrates business interests with project goals, regardless of whether the scope of the PMO is limited to managing specific projects or expanded to the level of a full business unit. People at all levels of the project and business spectrum will benefit from this volume. The Handbook focuses on how to establish PMO functionality to meet the requirements of project stakeholders. It presents 20 pertinent PMO function models, providing guidance for developing PMO operating capability that is applicable to any organization. It also presents these functions relative to five stages of progressive PMO development along a competency continuum, demonstrating potential PMO growth from simple project control up through its alignment within a strategic business framework.

Adapting For Inertia written by Grant Douglas and has been published by ANU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-31 with Political Science categories.

Despite much learning and research over many decades, large ICT software projects have continued to experience poor outcomes or fallen short of original expectations—some spectacularly so. This is the case in the Australian and New Zealand public sectors, even though these projects operate within historically developed institutional frameworks that provide the rules, guidelines and controls, and aim to consistently improve outcomes. Something is amiss. In Adapting for Inertia, Grant Douglas questions the effectiveness of these institutional frameworks in governing large ICT software projects in the Australian and New Zealand public sectors. He also gauges the perspectives of a large number of actors in projects in both sectors and examines two case studies in detail. The main narrative to emerge is that the institutional frameworks are in a state of inertia: they are failing to adapt, owing to various institutional factors—all of which have public policy implications. Sadly, Douglas finds, this inertia is likely to continue. If there is difficulty in changing the capacity to govern, he proposes, policymakers should look to change the nature of what is to be governed.
