Making Sense of Inner Sense 'Terra cognita' is terra incognita. It is difficult to find someone not taken abackand fascinated by the incomprehensible but indisputable fact: there are material systems which are aware of themselves. Consciousness is self-cognizing code. During homo sapiens's relentness and often frustrated search for self-understanding various theories of consciousness have been and continue to be proposed. However, it remains unclear whether and at what level the problems of consciousness and intelligent thought can be resolved. Science's greatest challenge is to answer the fundamental question: what precisely does a cognitive state amount to in physical terms? Albert Einstein insisted that the fundamental ideas of science are essentially simple and can be expressed in a language comprehensible to everyone. When one thinks about the complexities which present themselves in modern physics and even more so in the physics of life, one may wonder whether Einstein really meant what he said. Are we to consider the fundamental problem of the mind, whose understanding seems to lie outside the limits of the mind, to be essentially simple too? Knowledge is neither automatic nor universally deductive. Great new ideas are typically counterintuitive and outrageous, and connecting them by simple logical steps to existing knowledge is often a hard undertaking. The notion of a tensor was needed to provide the general theory of relativity; the notion of entropy had to be developed before we could get full insight into the laws of thermodynamics; the notice of information bit is crucial for communication theory, just as the concept of a Turing machine is instrumental in the deep understanding of a computer. To understand something, consciousness must reach an adequate intellectual level, even more so in order to understand itself. Reality is full of unending mysteries, the true explanation of which requires very technical knowledge, often involving notions not given directly to intuition. Even though the entire content and the results of this study are contained in the eight pages of the mathematical abstract, it would be unrealistic and impractical to suggest that anyone can gain full insight into the theory that presented here after just reading abstract. In our quest for knowledge we are exploring the remotest areas of the macrocosm and probing the invisible particles of the microcosm, from tiny neutrinos and strange quarks to black holes and the Big Bang. But the greatest mystery is very close to home: the greatest mystery is human consciousness. The question before us is whether the logical brain has evolved to a conceptual level where it is able to understand itself.

Quantum Computation And Logic written by Maria Luisa Dalla Chiara and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-10 with Philosophy categories.

This book provides a general survey of the main concepts, questions and results that have been developed in the recent interactions between quantum information, quantum computation and logic. Divided into 10 chapters, the books starts with an introduction of the main concepts of the quantum-theoretic formalism used in quantum information. It then gives a synthetic presentation of the main “mathematical characters” of the quantum computational game: qubits, quregisters, mixtures of quregisters, quantum logical gates. Next, the book investigates the puzzling entanglement-phenomena and logically analyses the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen paradox and introduces the reader to quantum computational logics, and new forms of quantum logic. The middle chapters investigate the possibility of a quantum computational semantics for a language that can express sentences like “Alice knows that everybody knows that she is pretty”, explore the mathematical concept of quantum Turing machine, and illustrate some characteristic examples that arise in the framework of musical languages. The book concludes with an analysis of recent discussions, and contains a Mathematical Appendix which is a survey of the definitions of all main mathematical concepts used in the book.

In his foreword to Schrödinger's Machines, Paul Davies writes, "The nineteenth century was known as the machine age, the twentieth century will go down in history as the information age. I believe the twenty-first century will be the quantum age." Perhaps the most successful scientific theory in history, quantum mechanics has already ushered in the information age with inventions like the transistor and the laser. In Schrödinger's Machines, renowned quantum physicist Gerard Milburn explores how our ever-increasing ability to manipulate atomic and subatomic processes is turning purely hypothetical situations and concepts (of a truly weird nature) into concrete, practical devices-- resulting in a complete transformation of our world view. Imagine the creation of machines the size of molecules, detectors sensitive enough to pick up the sound of a pin dropping on the other side of the earth, the fabrication of new and exotic materials, and extraordinarily powerful computers that can process information in many alternative realities simultaneously, creating a whole new type of mathematics. This isn't science fiction, but just some of the breathtaking possibilities offered by quantum technology over the next fifty years. Leaving the common sense of Newtonian machines far behind, Schrödinger's Machines is an advance preview of the strange new world ahead. Clearly presented, and with an acute awareness of recent advances in the field, it's indispensable reading for anyone interested in the future.

Does the Future Already Exist? Are the Distinctions Between the Past Present and Future Illusions as claimed by Einstein? Is it possible to travel into the future through the power of mind? Memory enables us to travel into the past, but mental time travel allows one to visit a future; a future which may already exist as predicted by Einstein's field equations: time may be a circle leading from the present to the future and then the past. Relativity also predicts that the only way to travel to the past is to first travel to the future, at which point one contracts to a size smaller than a Plank length and in so doing blowing a hole through the fabric of the space-time continuum and which may lead to a mirror universe if one dares to cross over the Einstein-Rosen bridge--and similar bridges are predicted to lead to other universes upon entering and surviving a journey through a black hole. Quantum mechanics also predicts time reversal in spaces smaller than a Plank length. Although the branch of quantum physics known as the many worlds interpretation rejects a central role for the collapse of the wave function by conscious observation and the act of measurements, the implications remain that there is no universal now and more than one past, present, or future, some more probable than others. The many worlds interpretation also resolves issues related to possible paradoxes of time travel, such as changing the past, which just becomes one past among many. As explained in this volume, Einstein s relativity not only predicts that there is no universal now but that the future and the past and the experience of time are also relative to an observer."

We may have lived knowing that the world around us operates in a way as if we observe them to be. This knowledge of how the universe operates, based primarily of our observations, has enabled us to predict actions and motions and allowed us to build machines and equipments that have made our lives easier and more enjoyable. The field that allowed us to do that is classical physics. The world, however, is advancing and our knowledge of how things are expands over time. We have discovered in the last few decades that these sets of rules that we have devised can perfectly describe the large-scale world but cannot accurately define the behaviors of particles in the microscopic world. This necessitated another field to explain the different behavior in the microscopic world: quantum physics.

A First Introduction To Quantum Physics written by Pieter Kok and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-07-26 with Science categories.

In this undergraduate textbook, the author develops the quantum theory from first principles based on very simple experiments: a photon travelling through beam splitters to detectors, an electron moving through a Stern-Gerlach machine, and an atom emitting radiation. From the physical description of these experiments follows a natural mathematical description in terms of matrices and complex numbers. The first part of the book examines how experimental facts force us to let go of some deeply held preconceptions and develops this idea into a mathematical description of states, probabilities, observables, and time evolution using physical applications. The second part of the book explores more advanced topics, including the concept of entanglement, the process of decoherence, and extension of the quantum theory to the situation of a particle in a one-dimensional box. Here, the text makes contact with more traditional treatments of quantum mechanics. The remaining chapters delve deeply into the idea of uncertainty relations and explore what the quantum theory says about the nature of reality. The book is an ideal and accessible introduction to quantum physics, with modern examples and helpful end-of-chapter exercises.
