The average 21st-century career is one of constant change: an individual can no longer expect to remain with one organisation his or her entire life, achieving managerial status through natural progression. Today's job market requires constant re-training and adjustment because of skills obsolescence, age discrimination and technological illiteracy. On the other hand, younger or less qualified workers find it difficult to enter the labour market because of a lack of skills or experience. Career counsellors should be able to help clients to navigate this difficult and changing role. The book offers a practical framework within which the career counsellor can work. The text explains the role of the career counsellor within the organisation; discusses the key concepts that influence career behaviour; explains the use of counselling and guidance tools and techniques; offers insight into the profession and practice of career counselling; and provides guidance within an international and a South African context. Integrating theoretical and practical perspectives, this book offers a comprehensive overview of career counselling and guidance services, practices, tools and techniques in an organisational context. It consists of five chapters, each of which has a summary, key terms and review an discussion questions.

Career success has never happened overnight, but you can still be confident in your big-picture path to being successful. Trust the trajectory that has been laid out just for you! Too often, people focus on the short term–mere survival--because they remain caught between a fear of failure and a desire for instant success, which results in limited risk-taking but also limiting their opportunities. As much as they want to get ahead, they simply can’t see how to get there. They don’t see how their current position is not merely a dead-end trap but actually a springboard to their next position--or even the one after that. Business author David Van Rooy wants you to know that the key is to have faith in your trajectory. He says that every person has their own career path--and this timely and refreshingly practical book presents seven strategies designed to help anyone create and manage theirs. In Trajectory, you will discover how to: Make the most of feedback Avoid stagnation and break through plateaus Achieve growth through failure Move to the front of the pack through persistence Continuously develop both “soft” and “hard” professional skills You don’t need to start over! Just discover where you currently are on your career trajectory. From building relationships with mentors, to positioning (and repositioning) yourself for promotion, Trajectory provides the tools you need for a lifetime of advancement.

From the pre-war Juvenile Employment Service to the diversity provided by Careers Scotland, Careers Wales, Connexions and Guidance Partnerships for Adults, David Peck analyzes the origins and development of careers guidance over the past one hundred years. Each new development in U.K. careers services is related to wider changes in social, education and economic policy, with references made throughout to major political figures with an interest in career choice, from Winston Churchill to Tony Blair. Particular attention is paid to the growth of a professional ethic among careers advisers: their training, qualifications and practice. This is the first ever published work to cover the history of the careers services in the U.K. Wide-ranging and meticulously researched, this book will make a significant contribution to the increasingly urgent debate on the future of career guidance, and for the first time calls the professionals to examine their past in order to improve and inform the future of careers services and their clients. Practitioners working in schools, further and higher education or with adults and young workers, student careers advisers and their tutors, should find this book an essential and comprehensive resource.

Changing Age And Career Concepts In The Austrian Banking Industry written by Barbara Marina Covarrubias Venegas and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-10 with Business & Economics categories.

Demographic change is affecting societies and organizations alike. Although ageing is relevant to all, there is still a tendency for more negative stereotypes to be attributed to older individuals, while positive stereotypes are mainly associated with younger individuals. Further, there are indications of gendered ageism, showing that age prejudices are more likely to affect women. This book argues that, through holistic measures, human resources management is of fundamental importance to an age-friendly and non-age-discriminatory culture. It can be assumed that awareness-raising on age issues also takes into account the gender issue. Drawing on qualitative interviews with employees in the Austrian banking industry and using an analytical framework, the author provides suggestions and implications for organizations to address this situation.
