Reaction Transport Systems written by Vicenc Mendez and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-16 with Science categories.

This book is an introduction to the dynamics of reaction-diffusion systems, with a focus on fronts and stationary spatial patterns. Emphasis is on systems that are non-standard in the sense that either the transport is not simply classical diffusion (Brownian motion) or the system is not homogeneous. A important feature is the derivation of the basic phenomenological equations from the mesoscopic system properties. Topics addressed include transport with inertia, described by persistent random walks and hyperbolic reaction-transport equations and transport by anomalous diffusion, in particular subdiffusion, where the mean square displacement grows sublinearly with time. In particular reaction-diffusion systems are studied where the medium is in turn either spatially inhomogeneous, compositionally heterogeneous or spatially discrete. Applications span a vast range of interdisciplinary fields and the systems considered can be as different as human or animal groups migrating under external influences, population ecology and evolution, complex chemical reactions, or networks of biological cells. Several chapters treat these applications in detail.

Transport Processes in Chemically Reacting Flow Systems discusses the role, in chemically reacting flow systems, of transport processes—particularly the transport of momentum, energy, and (chemical species) mass in fluids (gases and liquids). The principles developed and often illustrated here for combustion systems are important not only for the rational design and development of engineering equipment (e.g., chemical reactors, heat exchangers, mass exchangers) but also for scientific research involving coupled transport processes and chemical reaction in flow systems. The book begins with an introduction to transport processes in chemically reactive systems. Separate chapters cover momentum, energy, and mass transport. These chapters develop, state, and exploit useful quantitative ""analogies"" between these transport phenomena, including interrelationships that remain valid even in the presence of homogeneous or heterogeneous chemical reactions. A separate chapter covers the use of transport theory in the systematization and generalization of experimental data on chemically reacting systems. The principles and methods discussed are then applied to the preliminary design of a heat exchanger for extracting power from the products of combustion in a stationary (fossil-fuel-fired) power plant. The book has been written in such a way as to be accessible to students and practicing scientists whose background has until now been confined to physical chemistry, classical physics, and/or applied mathematics.

Open system behavior is predicated on a fundamental relationship between the timescale over which mass is transported and the timescale over which it is chemically transformed. This relationship describes the basis for the multidisciplinary field of reactive transport (RT). In the 20 years since publication of Review in Mineralogy and Geochemistry volume 34: Reactive Transport in Porous Media, RT principles have expanded beyond early applications largely based in contaminant hydrology to become broadly utilized throughout the Earth Sciences. RT is now employed to address a wide variety of natural and engineered systems across diverse spatial and temporal scales, in tandem with advances in computational capability, quantitative imaging and reactive interface characterization techniques. The present volume reviews the diversity of reactive transport applications developed over the past 20 years, ranging from the understanding of basic processes at the nano- to micrometer scale to the prediction of Earth global cycling processes at the watershed scale. Key areas of RT development are highlighted to continue advancing our capabilities to predict mass and energy transfer in natural and engineered systems.

Nonlinear Dynamics In The Life And Social Sciences written by William H. Sulis and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Medical categories.

Incorporating chaos theory into psychology and the life sciences, this text includes empirical studies of neural encoding, memory, eye movements, warfare, business cycles and selection of time series analysis algorithms. There are theoretical chapters on emergence and social dynamics, and clinical contributions dealing with: the measurement of quality of life for psychiatric patients; psychosis; the organization of self; and the role of love in family dynamics. Finally ideas from non-linear dynamics are applied to understanding the creative process.

Chemical Transport Reactions written by Harald Schäfer and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Science categories.

Chemical Transport Reactions focuses on the processes and reactions involved in the transport of solid or liquid substances to form vapor phase reaction products. The publication first offers information on experimental and theoretical principles and the transport of solid substances and its special applications. Discussions focus on calculation of the transport effect of heterogeneous equilibria for a gas motion between equilibrium spaces; transport effect and the thermodynamic quantities of the transport reaction; separation and purification of substances by means of material transport; and crystalline substances with homogeneous regions. The text then elaborates on the reaction process in the gas phase and chemical transport processes as an aid in preparative chemistry. The manuscript ponders on the use of transport experiments in the determination of thermodynamic values, including determination of quantities transported in the diffusion tube, test of reversibility, and inversion of transport direction. The book is a vital reference for readers interested in chemical transport reactions.

Geochemical And Biogeochemical Reaction Modeling written by Craig M. Bethke and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-09 with Science categories.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of reaction processes in the Earth's crust and on its surface, both in the laboratory and in the field. A clear exposition of the underlying equations and calculation techniques is balanced by a large number of fully worked examples. The book uses The Geochemist's Workbench® modeling software, developed by the author and already installed at over 1000 universities and research facilities worldwide. Since publication of the first edition, the field of reaction modeling has continued to grow and find increasingly broad application. In particular, the description of microbial activity, surface chemistry, and redox chemistry within reaction models has become broader and more rigorous. These areas are covered in detail in this new edition, which was originally published in 2007. This text is written for graduate students and academic researchers in the fields of geochemistry, environmental engineering, contaminant hydrology, geomicrobiology, and numerical modeling.
