Recovering from Training is the ultimate guide to the theory and practice of recovery from training. It describes the multiple causes, correlates, and consequences of fatigue, and also gives real-world recommendations on how to manage and reduce it for best health, fitness, and physique results. This book is for lay persons interested in fitness, athletes, coaches, hobbyists, and sport scientists alike. It leans heavily on peer-reviewed science and explains the physiology of fatigue and recovery in great depth. While based on scientific data, it is written to be easily digested by non-scientists. Attention is also paid to outlining practical application that readers can easily incorporate into recovery strategies for themselves or their athletes.Recovering from Training will allow the dedicated athlete and coach to plan out training, diet, and recovery strategies for optimal results. If you can recover better, you can train more, train harder, and make better gains over time. Peaking and tapering strategies are included so that competitive athletes can make sure to recover on time for competitions. Even if you're just interested in the theoretical underpinnings of recovery processes, this book is very unlikely to disappoint. Lastly, because peer-reviewed journal articles are referenced, you can use this book as a starting point to further your exploration of any of the recovery concepts discussed within.

The desire to improve muscle function and prevent overuse injuries from exercise and throughout training has led to the development of various methods to aid recovery and track readiness to perform. Ergogenic aids such as cold-water immersion, massage, and dynamic recovery procedures may have positive effects but the results of the related research remain equivocal. Furthermore, novel interventions in this scenario, like compression garments, ice vests, and photobiomodulation therapy are promising but need more evidence-based data to support their effectiveness. Similarly, to properly monitor individual physical conditioning, there is a growing interest toward unobtrusive measures to accurately represent physiological status during and/or after exercise. There are several techniques being used, such as subjective ratings of well-being, heart rate monitoring, hormonal and hematological profile assessments. However, more sensitive indexes like heart rate variability and muscle activation (voluntary and/or involuntary) are arising as attractive alternatives that may delineate physical conditioning status and readiness to perform more precisely than the aforementioned measures. The purpose of this Research Topic is to critically evaluate and summarize recent data from observational and intervention studies related to non-invasive methods designed to promote recovery and objectively monitor training status. Their association to physical performance and physiological recovery in athletes during training and competition is a major focus of this Topic.

The Athlete’s Guide to Recovery is the first comprehensive, practical exploration of the art and science of athletic rest. If you've hit a wall in your training, maybe it's because your body isn't recovering enough from each workout to become stronger. Hard workouts tear down the body, but rest allows the body to repair and come back stronger than before. Athletes who neglect their recovery will gain little from workouts, risking injury, overtraining, and burn out. The Athlete's Guide to Recovery offers a full exploration of rest and recovery for athletes. In her book, certified triathlon and running coach and pioneering yoga for athletes instructor Sage Rountree will guide you to full recovery and improved performance, revealing how to measure your fatigue and recovery, how much rest you need, and how to make the best use of recovery tools. Drawing on her own experience along with interviews with coaches, trainers, and elite athletes, Rountree details daily recovery techniques, demystifying common aids like ice baths, compression apparel, and supplements. She explains in detail how to employ restorative practices such as massage, meditation, and yoga. You will learn which methods work best and how and when they are most effective. The Athlete's Guide to Recovery explores: • Periodization and overtraining • Ways to measure fatigue and recovery including heart rate tests, heart rate variability, EPOC, and apps • Stress reduction • Sleep, napping, nutrition, hydration, and supplements • Cold and heat like icing, ice baths, saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, and heating pads • Home remedies including compression wear, creams, and salts • Technological aids like e-stim, ultrasound, Normatec • Massage, self-massage, and foam rolling • Restorative yoga • Meditation and breathing Then you can put these tools and techniques to practice using two comprehensive recovery plans for both short- and long-distance training. What readers are saying... "Anyone serious about strength needs to read this book." "A MUST READ!" If you're interested in more lean muscle, the biggest squat of your life, and unbreakable mental toughness even outside of the gym... but you're always frustrated by the 'same old' advice that never seems to move you ahead... you'll want to keep reading. The title is no lie. Yes, you really can squat every day. No, it won't "put you on the train to Snap City". But first, beware: This isn't your average "how to lift weights" book. There's no cookie-cutter programs that look just like the programs in every other exercise book you've bought before. What you'll find inside are little-known strategies used by the world's top weightlifters and strongmen to blow past world records. And they do it by ignoring everything you've ever been told about how your body responds to weight training. Even the experts who hate it in public secretly admire and follow the advice inside Squat Every Day. Inside, you'll discover: * The lies you've been told about recovery. Learn why your body won't fall apart if you put it under pressure (and what key ingredient you leave out of your training if you don't push it hard enough) * Why your mindset and mental attitude are more important than any workout you do. (If you've ever wondered why you aren't making progress, you might be shocked at how important this is... but hardly anybody talks about it in detail.) * The difference between beginners and advanced strength athletes that nobody wants to talk about (and it's NOT illegal performance enhancing chemicals) * The real story behind the insane workouts of the Bulgarian weightlifting team and how you can make them work for you... even if you've got a full-time job and a life outside the gym. * The one variable that almost nobody keeps track of... and why it might be the most important part of your workout (Hint: It has nothing to do with how many sets and reps you do or even how much weight is on the bar). If you're looking for the magic pill, I'll be blunt: You should give this book a pass. I'd rather you not read it if you are impatient, uncooperative, and unteachable. If you don't have the right attitude, this isn't for you. But if you're willing to learn... and you're ready to make the jump to the next level... what's in this book can have you setting PRs in as little as a few days. If you're ready to join the thousands of men and women who have made the best gains of their life, grab your copy right now.

Recovery And Stress In Sport written by Michael Kellmann and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-19 with Psychology categories.

Balancing training, stress, and recovery is essential for achieving optimal performance. The performance of professional athletes can be severely compromised by overtraining, injuries, prolonged periods of competition, or even life events outside their sporting lives. The current recovery-stress state depends on preceding stress and recovery activities, but through simultaneous assessment of stress and recovery, a differentiated picture can be provided. This manual includes two measurement instruments to gauge individual recovery, enabling both athletes and coaches to better understand the often-unconscious processes that impinge upon peak performance, and to monitor the physical, mental, emotional, mental, and overall recovery-stress state before and after training. The Acute Recovery and Stress Scale (ARSS) and the Short Recovery and Stress Scale (SRSS) are instruments that systematically enlighten the recovery-stress states of athletes. Through utilization of the ARSS and the SRSS, athletes and coaches can better understand the importance of daily activities, including how they can relate to stress/recovery and the direct impact on athletic performance. In addition to the instruments themselves, both of which are simple and easy to use, the manual also discusses their development, their basis in theory, and case studies showcasing their usage. The ARSS and the SRSS provide important information regarding the current recovery-stress state during the process of training, and are essential tools for coaches, sport scientists, sport psychologists, and athletes alike.
