"Tell me about a time...." The words evoke a child's fairy-tale innocence. Yet when used by an interviewer, they can help to determine the suitability of a job candidate by eliciting real-world examples of behaviors and experience that can save you and your organization from making a bad hiring decision. High-Impact Interview Questions shows you how to use competency-based behavioral interviewing methods that will uncover truly relevant and useful information. By having applicants describe specific situations from their own experience during previous jobs (rather than asking them hypothetical questions about "what would you do if..."), you'll be able to identify specific strengths and weaknesses that will tell you if you've found the right person for the job. But developing such behavior-based questions can be time-consuming and difficult. High-Impact Interview Questions saves you both time and effort. The book contains 701 questions you'll be able to use or adapt for your own needs, matched to 62 in-demand skills such as customer focus, motivation, initiative, adaptability, teamwork, and more. It allows you to move immediately to the particular skills you want to measure, and quickly find just the right tough but necessary questions to ask during an interview. Asking behavior-based questions is by far the best way to discover crucial details about job candidates. High-Impact Interview Questions gives you the tools and guidance you need to gather this important information before you hire.

The book offers a linguistic analysis of job advertising as an instrument of employer branding, investigating how the creation of the employer brand and the projection of employee value proposition are realised linguistically in a corpus of online job advertisements. The study is methodologically grounded in the current approaches to discourse analysis and business/organisational communication, as it is broadly understood, with particular emphasis on genre and register analysis, the language of persuasion and evaluation, as well as the language of (organisational) values. The analysis conducted in the book demonstrates that job advertisements constitute a distinct promotional business genre, a member of the system of genres applied in the job search context, increasingly resembling multi-modal marketing-type ads. The rhetorical structure of online recruitment advertisements confirms the initial hypothesis that job ads contribute to the projection and reinforcement of employer brands. The register of recruitment ads clearly harmonises with the employer branding function of the genre: extremely positive, encompassing a wide range of persuasive strategies, as well as lexico-grammatical choices contributing to the creation of employer brands, job advertising may justifiably be classified as a “paradigm case” of persuasion. With employer branding being deeply rooted in the values emanating from an organisation, the use of linguistic structures communicating or implying the system of attributes and values declared by the employing organisations is a powerful employer branding strategy, widely reflected in the corpus. Taking into account the interdisciplinary character of the analysis, the book will be of interest not only to linguists and business communication scholars, but also to human resource management and public relations researchers and practitioners.

This book explores the issue of graduate employability in rural labour markets. European higher education institutions are expected to be crucial players in terms of regional innovation, contributing through research, education and formation of human capital. The author asks how this role be played out equally in urban and rural areas. In rural areas, the most educated young members of society often find it impossible to contribute to the local economy and feel forced to seek better prospects in urban centres. The author examines the roles of higher education in rural centres, as well as the transitions from education to work by taking the point of view of students and graduates. Finally, the book offers advice for pedagogies that support the increase of employability potential for rural economies.

This book presents a collection of thematically focused articles addressing culture-specific features of academic communication, with a particular focus on communication conducted in English as an Additional Language and directed at multicultural audiences. It comprises papers arranged in four sections: Expert writers, Novice writers and readers, Conference participants, and Non-research academic genres. The book explicitly addresses and is centred upon the concept of a research niche understood as a space to be captured and populated, as a temporary location to move or grow out of in the course of individual professional development from novice to expert, and as a space to consciously reach beyond, delimited by one’s linguistic, cultural, educational, and geopolitical background. Here the niche is approached as a frame of reference for discussion of what is culture-bound, culture-sensitive, and culture-free in the academic community and its practices.
