Ask any educator about their experiences in the classroom and amid their joys and concerns they will liken the experience to a battlefield. On that battlefield, we have to balance passion with expectations, ambitions with reality and patience with educational benchmarks. Each day we enter our schools, we are on the frontlines for the future of our children and our communities. The education of our children is an on-going battle. One of which despite our most diligent preparations requires encouragement and direction. Reflections From The Frontline aims to be timeless encouragement, direction and food for thought for progressive educators everywhere.Because it takes someone who has been in the trenches, who has served on the frontlines of education to understand, convey and empower another soldier in our quest for quality education for all. So for educators, past, current and future, we share these Reflections From The Frontline.

"At the Frontline of Covid-19 is an emotional account of the first Covid lockdown told by upbeat breast surgeon consultant, Ash, as he admits his struggle to adapt to pandemic life. From new equipment, frequent process shuffling, and heroes within the hospital, Ash reflects on his tales from the NHS frontline of the Covid response. With an entwined narrative from his wife, Jenny, who battles to preserve her hairdressing business during the pandemic, the two give an open account of family life as they navigate 'staying safe' during an unprecedented time. This accessible diary is as much about a family's repercussions of working within the medical profession during lockdown as well as the rapid changes that overtook the South-East hospitals. Sprinkled with heart-warming anecdotes and whimsical references, it is a good-humoured and honest account of work and family life during the pandemic"--

Some frontline organizations presume that frontline command (defined as the direct supervision of frontline workers by frontline commanders) is required for frontline work to be effective. However, little scholarly effort has been devoted to investigate frontline command. This thesis investigates the effectiveness of frontline command in police organizations responsible for major criminal investigation, as well as the response organization of the fire service. Several research methods are used to get a better understanding of the degree to which frontline command can be studied. Contrary to the expectations of frontline organizations and many frontline commanders, the book's findings suggest that, in current practice, frontline commanders contribute to the effectiveness of frontline work only to a limited extent. However, in theory there is still a need for frontline command. The book suggests that frontline command can be appropriately studied, and therefore calls for more empirical research to uncover the effects of frontline command and the degree to which it can be improved in practice. Implications for practice are provided. Thesis. *** Librarians: ebook available on ProQuest and EBSCO [Subject: Criminology, Policing]

"Two weeks ago, I didn't even know that Niger was a country... now I am deep in its south with Doctors Without Borders, responsible for saving people's lives." In this story of humanitarian emergency medical work as a physician with Médecins Sans Frontières in Africa, Cassandra Arnold uses spare prose and haunting images to share the heartbreak and the humor, the challenges and the celebrations of volunteer work overseas. From February 2009 to October 2013, Dr Cassandra Arnold spent twenty months in the field as a volunteer with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. In that time, she accepted 8 posts in 5 different countries: Niger, Haiti, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Iraq. This is Niger, where it all began. Part journal, part photo essay, part poem... deeply personal and deeply confronting... If you have ever wondered what this work is really like, read this book and you will know. "Follow me now into the sands of the Sahel." Profits from the sale of this book will be donated to Doctors Without Borders Canada.

A substantive account of the evolution of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Doha Development Agenda (DDA) negotiations and the role of developing country coalitions and alliances, this book presents the reflections of former and current developing country negotiators on their firsthand experiences. With explanations on the mandates for these discussions, it offers insights into how negotiations on trade and economic relations are conducted in the multilateral trading system; covers the negotiating experience on specific subjects in the Doha Round; and deals with coalition building efforts by developing countries and the impact of these coalitions on the negotiations. Covering a 10-year history of the DDA, this account presents a rich resume of increasing and more effective developing country participation in the WTO.
