"Five hundred years ago the Protestant Reformation became a major turning point in Western history. As Concordia College observes this anniversary, it is appropriate to ask what is in need of reform today and what resilience remains within the tradition to help effect such reform? Born in a university setting, the dialectical interaction of faith and learning has been a hallmark of Lutheran higher education from the beginning. At its core, the liberal arts are emphasized as preparation for vocation in service to neighbor. Today, the understanding of "neighbor" must be expanded to include all faith traditions and the natural world. The thesis of this book is that Lutheran liberal arts education must move beyond an anthropocentric to an ecocentric understanding of vocation in order to foster planetary citizenship and sustainability leadership. Following the structure of the college's strategic plan, this text addresses questions of reform in the areas of Whole Self, Whole Life, Whole World, and Whole College and encourages the interaction of faith with contemporary life and thought."--Back cover

"This biography, begun by Timothy F. Lull prior to his death and capably finished by Derek Nelson, is marked by its fresh, winsome, and invigorating style--one undoubtedly shaped by years spent in undergraduate and seminary classrooms. In this telling, Luther is an energetic, resilient actor, driven by very human strengths and failings, always wishing to do right by his understanding of God and the witness of the Scriptures. At times humorous, always realistic, and appropriately critical when necessary, Lull and Nelson tell the story of an amazing, unforgettable life"--Back cover.

Building A Resilient Organisation written by John Arthur and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-03 with Business & Economics categories.

In this book, John Arthur and Louise Moody introduce the concept of the reasoning chain, a new approach to risk-based reasoning systems in large, complex and distributed organisations. Arguing that large, complex and distributed organisations are particularly focussed on a triple-helix of chain metaphors – supply, value and reputation chains – the authors propose that there is overwhelming evidence that the accepted approaches to risk and resilience do not compliment this architecture. This is extremely problematic because risk and resilience constructs have been formally and informally regulated for these industries. The Reasoning Chain proposes and illustrates a holistic solution to the problems thrown up by existing norms. It is proposed that the reasoning chain be intentionally designed on an equal footing with supply, value and reputation; a quadruple helix. Through challenge of best practice, an argument unfolds to outline the novel approach for risk based resilience reasoning in large distributed organisations, illustrated through a series of case studies and guidance to implementation. This book is an accessible and valuable resource for risk managers and decision makers responsible for complex business decisions.

The Challenge to Academic Freedom in Hungary: A Case Study in Culture War, Authoritarianism and Resistance presents a case study as to how an authoritarian regime like the one in Hungary seeks to tame academic freedom. Andrew Ryder probes the reasons for ideological conflict within the academy through concepts like ‘culture war’ and authoritarian populism. He explores how the Orbán administration has introduced a series of reforms leading to limitations being placed on the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Gender Studies no longer being recognized by the State, the relocation of the Central European University because of government pressure and new reforms that ostensibly appear to give universities autonomy but critics assert are in fact changes that will lead to cronyism and pro-government interference in academic freedom.
