A broad perspective on the role of religious institutes in social and cultural practices This volume examines the cultural contribution of religious institutes, men and women religious, and their role in the constitution of Catholic communities of communication in different European countries (England, Germany, Liechtenstein, the Low Countries, the Nordic Countries, Switzerland). The articles focus on social and cultural history by comparing both discourses and cultural and social practices, as well as examining international networks and cultural transference. How did religious institutes function as cultural elites in the production and mediation of knowledge, ideologies, cultural codes, and practices? What kind of discursive and operational strategies did they use to help construct and propagate social Catholicism, ultramontanism, and confessionalism, and to establish and promote the Catholic communication system? What were the central mechanisms in the production of knowledge and how were they incorporated within identity politics? The volume also takes a broad perspective on the role of religious institutes in the production and propagation of religious, cultural, and social practices, and in the socialisation of the Catholic population. Der Ansatz eines Performativen Religionsunterrichts wird seit gut 10 Jahren in der Religionspädagogik theoretisch diskutiert und praktisch erprobt. Von zwei Problemstellungen her wurde das Konzept dieses kommentierten Sammelbandes entwickelt: Zum einen werden in den Publikationen evangelischer Religionspädagogen die praktischen Modelle und theoretischen Diskurse katholischer Autoren kaum rezipiert, obwohl diese in der Praxis auch des evangelischen RU durchaus eine beachtliche Rolle spielen. Andererseits wurde der Diskurs bisher in sehr unterschiedlichen Publikationsorganen geführt. Die Kommentierung der Aufsätze und angefügte Impulsfragen ermöglichen den Einsatz des Buchs beispielsweise in Seminaren, bei Lehrerfortbildungen oder in der Lehrerausbildung. Den Rahmen bilden eine zusammenfassende Klärung konzeptioneller Anfragen an einen Performativen RU, die überwiegend aus den dargestellten Dokumenten stammen, sowie ein Literaturbericht und eine bündige Beantwortung häufig wiederkehrender Fragen ("FAQ").

Die Buchreligionen Islam und Christentum können ohne das Wort nicht auskommen, auch wenn dieses für beide jeweils unterschiedliche Bedeutungen hat. Zumindest dort, wo Religion weitergegeben wird, ist jedoch das Medium Wort unverzichtbar. Das gilt auch für die Weitergabe der Religion an anderssprachige Adressaten. Mit diesem letzten Fall befassen sich die Beiträge in diesem Band, die nicht nur theologisch bzw. theologisch-historisch und translationswissenschaftlich motiviert sind, sondern auch zum Teil religionsdidaktischen Überlegungen folgen. Translation wird daher zur Technik, um die Botschaft der heiligen Bücher weiterzugeben. Dieser Aspekt gewinnt etwa mit der jüngsten Etablierung des deutschsprachigen Islamunterrichts an deutschen Schulen immer mehr an Bedeutung. Dass dieser zur Zeit noch nicht wirklich "ankommt", hat sicher auch mit sprachlichen Problemen zu tun. Ähnliches gilt auch für den christlichen Religionsunterricht zumindest dort, wo er in mehrsprachigen und multikulturellen Kontexten stattfindet. Translation findet jedoch nicht nur im Bereich des (schriftlich oder mündlich gebrauchten) Wortes statt, sondern auch zwischen Medien, zum Beispiel zwischen Wort und Bild, und hier eröffnen sich zum Teil noch unbeackerte Forschungsfelder.
