The Making Of The Common In Social Relations written by Alexandre Cotovio Martins and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-25 with History categories.

This book originates from a basic, yet innovative question: in which forms of qualification and justification do social actors support themselves to engage in common actions? This inquiry brings to the field of sociological and anthropological analysis the need to take into account socially accepted forms of qualifications of common action and the ways by which they are brought to social situations, and, simultaneously, the need to understand the processes of elaboration of justifications which may demonstrate to social actors that acting in common is worthwhile. As such, this volume analyses the processes by which social actors qualify and communalize certain aspects of their life and also produce justifications that give sense to the ways and means of actions thus brought to the stage of social life. The book will appeal to the wider academic public, namely scholars and post-graduate students, in the areas of sociology and anthropology, and, furthermore, to all professionals in the field of social sciences, throughout the world. In addition, given its treatment of these domains, the volume will also be of interest to professionals in areas such as health, education, and urban planning.

The Oxford Handbook Of Education And Globalization written by Jacqueline Behrend and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Education categories.

"The categories commonly mobilized to think about education have long been associated with the notion of the nation state, and functioned as obstacles, rather than resources, for our understanding of how globalization plays out in this particular field. In the last two decades, both social theory and comparative politics have attempted to overcome these limitations in their own way. Social theory increasingly acknowledged education as a global phenomenon. Theories have been developed to describe a global society evolving across borders. They show how, through processes that remain debated (cultural isomorphism, capitalism, functional differentiation), a number of structural and semantic evolutions have spread across education systems. Part I of this Handbook is dedicated to presenting, discussing, and comparing three such theories of globalization and their implications for our understanding of education and education policy. Comparative politics has for its part concerned itself with developing a more complex, less unified and 'transformationalist' view of the State by acknowledging the fragmentation and distribution of its functions among distinct domains and levels. Part II gravitates around this global constellation, with chapters focusing on global reforms, norms and ideas put forward by supranational organizations, on international accountability processes and on the ways in which nation states or local actors adopt, implement or resist global ideas and reforms. The two Parts reflect these disciplinary approaches to the relation between globalization and education. Together, these two approaches seek to provide a comprehensive overview of how globalization and education interact to result in distinct and varying outcomes across world regions"--

Challenges Of Communication In A Context Of Crisis written by Marc Breviglieri and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-09 with Social Science categories.

This book questions the political tools and the basis upon which the values of an informed and objective communication rest, and that nowadays encompass most of the ordinary situations encountered in institutions. What is the fate of the involuntary drifts of communication, such as disturbances, misunderstandings and troubles, in the use of decision-making tools, participatory mechanisms, and the establishment of contractual procedures or informed consent practices? How do they open a discordant and potentially critical gap in the protocols and assessment and categorization measures that govern these institutions? How can the virtues of these drifts, whether in the exercise of sociological research or of scientific discovery be revalued? Crisis situations seem implicitly or explicitly to involve communicative issues. The efforts of normative framing of communication and of information formatting are then numerous. However, as this book shows, one can question not only the effectiveness of these efforts, but also how the actors receive them and how they transform the actual modalities of their communication processes.

This book on life politics comprises a collection of interviews and commentaries. The notion of life politics covers a number of different meanings within the book. Most importantly is the way that the genre of interviews helps cover a range of cultural contexts and intellectual milieu. Part of the life politics represented in this book is built around the belief that if we are to act as public intellectuals in the field of education and culture in the current globalised setting we need to travel. This book shows how public intellectual work gets interrogated and implemented in different social and cultural settings.

Storying the Public Intellectual: Commentaries on the Impact and Influence of the Work of Ivor Goodson offers a critcal commentary on Goodson’s work that avoids hagiography whilst recognising the global reach of his scholarship. With contributors from around the world, those who have collaborated with him or those who have taken up his work, the book provides the sort of social and historical contextualising that Goodson has always advocated. The accounts in this collection highlight how Goodson’s integration of moral imperatives into strategically responsive scholarship can provide a useful roadmap when negotiating a path through the contemporary academic research landscape. By using his historian’s orientation and sensibilities he is able to get to the heart of the logics of schooling. By connecting with other scholars and researchers around the world, he exposes how the global neo-liberal project plays out in particular settings, and so challenges pervasive understandings about the meaning of global – and the power of the neo-liberal project itself. This book is ideal reading for academics, scholars and researchers in the field of education, including those involved in initial and in-service teacher education.
