A group of Chagga-speaking men descend the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to butcher animals and pour milk, beer, and blood on the ground, requesting rain for their continued existence. Returning Life explores how this event engages activities where life force is transferred and transformed to afford and affect beings of different kinds. Historical sources demonstrate how the phenomenon of life force encompasses coffee cash-cropping, Catholic Christianity, and colonial and post-colonial rule, and features in cognate languages from throughout the area. As this vivid ethnography explores how life projects through beings of different kinds, it brings to life concepts and practices that extend through time and space, transcending established analytics.

Return To Life written by Jim Tucker and has been published by Macmillan Publishers Aus. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-01 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In this collection of real-life stories, Jim B. Tucker, a notable US medical scientist investigates children's experiences of past lives. We are all familiar with Buddhist tales of reincarnation, but this book focuses on ordinary kids in suburban homes across the US and elsewhere. In Return to Life, Tucker asks the ultimate question: Does any part of our mind survive after death? His focus on children gives him an opportunity to observe the phenomenon without the baggage and biases of adult life. There is the story of Patrick, born twelve years after his brother, Kevin, tragically died of cancer. Patrick, throughout his childhood, bore the physical marks of his brother's illness, but none of the actual symptoms, and had remarkable recall of his brother's short life. Or the story of the boy, James from Louisiana who from the age of two is convinced he was a World War II pilot, and is able describe the pilot's life and details of the crash that killed him.

Returning To Primordially Creative Thinking written by Shuren Wang and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-02 with Philosophy categories.

This book identifies that “Xiang thinking” is the eidetic connotation and a fundamental trait of traditional Chinese thinking, offering insights of considerable methodological significance. "Xiang thinking" is a mode of thinking different from conceptual thinking or idealized rational thinking and, in a certain sense, it is more primal. In the past century, particularly since 1949, the primary works on Chinese philosophical history have, as a rule, addressed the ancient Chinese tradition of philosophical ideas by virtue of the philosophies of Plato, Descartes and Hegel: methods that inherently challenge Chinese philosophical insights. This has naturally led to the fact that the insights as such remained obscured. This book starts to reverse this trend, intending to help Chinese people understand and appraise themselves in a more down-to-earth fashion. In addition, it is particularly helpful to people of other cultures if they want to understand ancient Chinese philosophy and culture in a context of fresh and inspiring philosophical ideas. Returning To John Donne written by Achsah Guibbory and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-23 with Literary Criticism categories.

Collected in this volume are Achsah Guibbory’s most important and frequently cited essays on Donne, which, taken together, present her distinctive and evolving vision of the poet. The book includes an original, substantive introduction as well as new essays on the Devotions upon Emergent Occasions, the Songs and Sonnets, and the subject of Donne and toleration. Over the course of her career, Guibbory has asked different questions about Donne but has always been concerned with recovering multiple historical and cultural contexts and locating Donne’s writing in relation to them. In the essays here, she reads Donne within various contexts: the early modern thinking about time and history; religious attitudes towards sexuality; the politics of early modern England; religious conflicts within the church. While her approach has always been historicist, she has also foregrounded Donne’s distinctiveness, showing how (and why) he continues to speak powerfully to us now. Presented together here, with reflections on the trajectory of her engagement with Donne, Achsah Guibbory illuminates Donne’s understanding that erotic, spiritual, and political issues are often intertwined, and reveals how this understanding resonates in our own times.
