O Colóquio da Revista Filosófica de Coimbra, “Método e Métodos do Pensamento Filosófico” realizou-se em 27 e 28 de Abril de 2006, no Instituto de Estudos Filosóficos da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra. As atas do Colóquio percorrem o problema do método da filosofia em diversas investigações histórico-sistemáticas desde Platão até ao Séc. XXI. Esta obra reúne abordagens diferentes sobre um tema fundamental para todo o pensamento filosófico, quer se posicione este na observância de um qualquer método, quer reivindique a sua autonomia frente ao próprio conceito do método. Da perspetiva dialética, transcendental, fenomenológica, hermenêutica, analítica, da história concetual ou da teoria dos sistemas, e procurando expor pontos essenciais destes métodos ou modos da filosofia, os autores realizam uma reflexão, plural e singular, sobre aquilo que se faz quando se filosofa, ou como se persegue o objeto do pensar, quando sistematicamente se estuda um problema filosófico, i.e., sobre o próprio «conhece-te a ti mesma» da filosofia. Com esta reflexão plural sobre os métodos do pensamento filosófico, inicia-se uma série especial, sem periodicidade regular, da Revista Filosófica de Coimbra.

Aristotle in Coimbra is the first book to cover the history of both the College of Arts in Coimbra and its most remarkable cultural product, the Cursus Conimbricensis, examining early Jesuit pedagogy as performed in one of the most important colleges run by the Society of Jesus in the sixteenth century. The first complete philosophical textbook published by a Jesuit college, the Cursus Conimbricensis (1592–1606) was created by some of the most renowned early Jesuit philosophers and comprised seven volumes of commentaries and disputations on Aristotle’s writings, which had formed the foundation of the university philosophy curriculum since the Middle Ages. In Aristotle in Coimbra, Cristiano Casalini demonstrates the connection between educational practices in a sixteenth-century college and the structure of a scholastic philosophical commentary, providing insight into this particular form of late-scholastic Aristotelianism through historiographical discourse. This book provides both a narrative of the historical background behind the publication of the Cursus and an analysis of the major philosophical and educational issues addressed by its seven volumes. It is valuable reading for all those interested in intellectual history, the history of education and the history of philosophy.

Por ocasião do centenário de nascimento de Paul Ricoeur, a Universidade de Coimbra juntou num mesmo volume um conjunto de estudos académicos em tributo a este pensador. Reuniram-se deste modo comunicações de professores, de novos investigadores e de estudantes de doutoramento em redor de temas que marcaram a receção da obra e do filósofo francês em Coimbra. Cada capítulo do presente livro demonstra a fecundidade de um pensamento que, enraizado na “tradição reflexiva”, assumindo a mensagem das “filosofias da existência”, articulando Fenomenologia e Hermenêutica, adquire, hoje, crescente impacto e relevância. Esta é uma filosofia que promove o diálogo entre disciplinas, autores e culturas e supera divisões teóricas em ordem a enfrentar as exigências da praxis. O desafio da praxis fez assim emergir um pensamento exigente e, simultaneamente, capaz de dialogar com diversas áreas do saber como: a psicoterapia, a história, as neurociências, a bioética, as ciências sociais e os estudos literários. At the occasion of the Paul Ricoeur’s centenary this volume joined in tribute several scholars, young researchers, and Ph.D students around the main themes that marked the reception of the philosopher’s work in Portugal and, especially in the University of Coimbra. Each chapter demonstrates the vigour Ricoeur’s thought as it is rooted in the "reflexive tradition", as it assumed the "existentialist" horizon, as it articulated Phenomenology and Hermeneutics. This philosophical project as, today, an enormous range of influence. This is a project that promotes dialogue between disciplines, authors, and cultures, overcoming theoretical divisions in face the demands of praxis. From this rich and plural inspiration comes the ability to meet with other fields of thought, namely psychotherapy, history, neuroscience, bioethics, social sciences, and literary studies.

Between 1592 and 1606, four jesuit professors from the College of Coimbra published a course of Aristotelian Philosophy, known by the title Commentarii Collegii Conimbricensis Societatis Jesu. Given its intrinsic value, he eventually knew a global influence: from the Atlantic to the Urals, the Far East and Latin America. Also some eminent philosophers (e.g. Descartes or Peirce) were readers of the work of Coimbra but, due to the numerous editions that the work met abroad, its overwhelming presence in the european university libraries, has determined the study of philosophy by thousands of students. Written in an accessible language, this monograph aims to give an updated, systematic and rigorous perspective of the main themes addressed in the work Coimbra – logic, physics, psychology, ethics and metaphysics – for the first time presented as «an exposition of philosophical science in a systematic, deductive and disputational form».

Educação Filosófica – sete ensaios analisa, por várias vias, e em perspetivas diversas, mas convergentes, a problemática da ensinabilidade da filosofia e das condições da sua concretização, sobretudo no Ensino Secundário. Pretendem demonstrar que ensinar e aprender filosofia coloca problemas de que temos que ter consciência, se quisermos iniciar os alunos numa verdadeira formação filosófica. Há uma ideia generalizada que considera que a filosofia não necessita de uma didática muito exigente porque tem em si as condições da sua própria didática. Esta ideia, basicamente certa, segundo o autor, tem sido causa, no entanto, de equívocos que têm dificultado as verdadeiras vias de acesso ao ensino e à aprendizagem da filosofia. É curioso notar como o autor demonstra que a ideia corrente de que a filosofia tem em si mesmo a sua didática, se volta contra a própria filosofia, sendo (tendo sido) uma das mais fortes razões para a dificuldade de pôr em prática a didática que se diz que a filosofia tem. Ao longo destes sete ensaios, com grande rigor e pormenor, são abordados temas centrais como, por exemplo, as relações entre a filosofia e a pedagogia, os métodos de ensino, a importância da motivação, os objetivos de uma educação filosófica, a necessidade de uma avaliação adequada e rigorosa, etc. Trata-se de justificar a necessidade de levar os alunos a aprender filosofia por processos pedagogicamente mais motivantes e educativamente mais valiosos que os habituais. O autor procura demonstrar que uma didática específica não é incompatível com uma aprendizagem rigorosa e exigente dos conteúdos, e que a preocupação com a motivação pedagógica não induz superficialidade na formação filosófica, antes pelo contrário.
