How come I can never find my keys? Why don't I sleep as well? Why do my friends keep repeating the same stories? What can I do to keep my brain sharp? Scientists know. Brain Rules for Ageing Well, by developmental molecular biologist Dr. John Medina, gives you the facts - and the prescription to age well - in his engaging signature style. With so many discoveries over the years, science is literally changing our minds about the optimal care and feeding of the brain. All of it is captivating. A great deal of it is unexpected. In his New York Timesbestseller Brain Rules, Dr. Medina showed us how our brains really work - and why we ought to redesign our workplaces and schools to match. Now, in Brain Rules for Ageing Well, he shares how you can make the most of the years you have left. In a book destined to be a classic on ageing, Medina's fascinating stories and infectious sense of humour breathe life into the science. Brain Rules for Ageing Wellis organised into four sections, each laying out familiar problems with surprising solutions. First up, an overview- looking under the hood of an ageing brain as it motors through life. The second part focuses on the feeling brain, using topics ranging from relationships and stress to happiness and gullibility to illustrate how our emotions change with age. The third focuses on the thinking brain, explaining how various cognitive gadgets such as working memory and executive function change with time. Each section is sprinkled with practical advice- for example, a certain style of dancing may be better for your brain than eating fish. Medina explains not only how taking certain actions can improve your brain's performance, but also what is known about the brain science behind each intervention. The final section is about the future. Your future. It's filled with topics as joyful as retirement and as heartbreaking as Alzheimer's. Medina connects all of the chapters into a plan, checklist-style, for maintaining your brain health. You may already be experiencing the sometimes unpleasant effects of the ageing process. Or you may be deeply concerned about your loved ones who are. Either way, Brain Rules for Ageing Wellis for you.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The rule of optimism states that people cannot stop themselves from explaining themselves fully after they have committed a social blunder. This is how George F. Baer achieved American duncehood during the Pennsylvania coal strike of 1902 when he wrote to a mine owner to explain himself. #2 The best way to handle a scandal is to keep your mouth shut. The more direct your approach, the more you want to get rid of you. The audience grows vengeful and wants to get rid of you.

Ageing Gender And Family Law written by Beverley Clough and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-19 with Law categories.

This book explores the intersecting issues relating the phenomenon of ageing to gender and family law. The latter has tended to focus mainly on family life in young and middle age; and, indeed, the issues of childhood and parenting are key in many family law texts. Family life for older members has, then, been largely neglected; addressing this neglect, the current volume explores how the issues which might be important for younger people are not necessarily the same as those for older people. The significance of family, the nature of family life, and the understanding of self in terms of one’s relationships, tend to change over the life course. For example, the state may play an increasing role in the lives of older people – as access to services, involvement in work and the community, the ability to live independently, and to form or maintain caring relationships, are all impacted by law and policy. This collection therefore challenges the standard models of family life and family law that have been developed within a child/parent-centred paradigm, and which may require rethinking in the turn to family life in old age. Interdisciplinary in its scope and orientation, this book will appeal not just to academic family lawyers and students interested in issues around family law, ageing, gender, and care; but also to sociologists and ethicists working in these areas.
