A chance sailing trip with a friend from work led me to wonder if I could learn to sail. After all, Im a woman, and the sailing world seems to favor men. I am not athletic; I didnt grow up in a family where we learned about boating; I would be starting late, since I was in my thirties; and I suffer from seasickness. What I discovered over the next twenty-five years is that I could indeed learn to be a competent sailor. But I didnt expect to be an expert overnight. Instead, as a novice, I layered on new knowledge slowly, over time, through experiential learning. This book describes the process whereby this happened. Using examples from trips along the coast of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, it reviews the essential knowledge needed to be a sailor as well as explanations about the parts of a sailboat, major boat systems, and tasks associated with maintaining a sailboat. It also discusses some Zen-like attitudes that lead to successful and fun sailing, such as focusing, the no-blame rule, and stripping down to the essentials. Unlike some other sailing guides, this book points out that sailing can be a lifestyle that includes many dimensions. Its not just about getting a boat to sail. Traveling by boat is a unique experience, and visiting small coastal New England communities is an adventure. Learning about history, art, ecology, star constellations, technology, and birds are only a few of the kinds of activities that can be built into a rich and rewarding sailing experience. This book will be helpful for people who would like to learn to sail but who are intimidated by the process, particularly women, fledgling sailors just starting out, and families with children.

This book is about learning to sail. It follows the techniques perfected at the world-famous Annapolis Sailing School, where thousands of people just like you have learned to take tiller in hand and harness the wind. You'll learn your way around a boat--what its parts are called, what they do, and how to use them to ride the wind wherever you want to go. Read this book, spend some time on a boat, and practice your new skills, and pretty soon you'll be a sailor, one of a select group of people who think there's nothing finer than hiking out to windward in a close-hauled dinghy--racing against friends or a neighboring sailing club, or alone and just for the fun of it.

Did you know that many sailing couples and sailing families are enjoying the benefits of the sailing lifestyle while making a fantastic income? Most people assume that the boating life is only for the rich or retired. So not true!I've met loads of people that tell me they'll have fun when they retire or live the sailing dream once the kids are gone. And many unfortunately believe that you have to go to school, get a good job, have kids, be a pillar of the community, grow old, retire, and then you can relax and reap the rewards of all your hard work.Of course it's important to be responsible, take care of yourself and your family but why not do that AND enjoy one of the most amazing lifestyles out there?!Would it surprise you to discover that there are thousands of people and families out living the dream and you could live it too?My name is Kimberly and I am working sailing cruiser who has been successfully making a six-figure income while sailing around the world on my beautiful 56 yacht with my lovely husband and beautiful daughter. I'm no one special. I wasn't born wealthy, nor did I win the lottery. My husband was a prison officer and later a stay-at-home dad. I ran a foreign currency business in London. Both of us decided that life wasn't working for us, so we sold everything we had, purchased a sailboat, and sailed off into the sunset. We had a bit of money to live off of for a while, but the plan was to make an income. Over the years, I didn't feel as if I was making much progress, nor did I know exactly where we were heading. I just kept working away at a variety of things. Today we have multiple streams of income-some passive, requiring very little effort, and some active, requiring our full attention. We make money while we sleep, and we make money when we have guests join us on our boat. The glorious thing is that we also make money while we have guests and sleep! Only now can I look back and provide you with what worked so that you can get a jumpstart to living your sailing life while making money to truly enjoy it. I've created this book to help you realize that it's possible to live your dream, and I'd like to share with you how we've made it work for us and how others have done the same. You most likely won't want to follow in our exact steps, although we'd be happy to help you do so. What's important is to understand the strategies available, the overarching principles and action steps that we applied. My hope is that you can make things work quicker and easier than it has been for us. The approach that we've taken has allowed us to create a variety of income streams so that when one goes down, like when a world-wide pandemic destroys one income stream, other sources of income will support us through the tough times. This book will provide you with an arsenal of many options. I hope you'll get excited by the sheer number of opportunities there are to go out and live the life of your dreams! Start reading the book now!
