The poet believes that 'silliness feeds the soul' but sometimes I like to write from the heart as well. This book is a mix of the silly, saucy, and some serious. You will not find the ranting, raving incomprehensible, or the deep but something for everyone. Dip in and enjoy my scribbles!

"Scribbles, Images and Words, was [the author's] way of trying something different with the material he has fostered over his 50 years as an art teacher along with an entire life spent as a practicing artist. The book demonstrates how artistic exercises, poetry, and verbal/visual relationships led Schulman to encaustic painting: an Egyptian art form that uses heated bee's wax mixed with oil paints to add a glossy sheen and improve upon the medium's longevity"--description from volumeone.enstore.com.

Trees contain leaves of different colour, size and shape. Presented are sonnet, lyric, ballad, ode and more for ones enjoyment, each leaf a new page. While reading one is taken to a land of feelings and emotions found in poetry where one can personally experience these private sensations. The rhyme and rhythm change the mood and the beat of the heart. Each page will cause a link to the shadows of ones past. Sadness, pathos, love and joy herein intermingle. One has the sensation of life’s emotion roller coaster joy ride. I was born in 1928 and found an affinity to poetry from the time I could read. I started writing while in public school and have continued in the pursuit of the perfect poem. My working years were spent searching for an occupation I could enjoy and get paid for. Employed by the Canadian National Railroad in Fort Erie, Region Niagara I found my calling, locomotive engineer. In order to attain that lofty position I worked from the section gang up to fireman position and finally graduated to engineer. I ran steam locomotive engines in the days when railroading had lots of romance attached to it. I wrote poems about working conditions, fellow workers, locomotives, and any subject that caught my fancy. My years spent in cadet work and community service did not escape my pen. My life has been blessed with two fine children and two lovely wives. Death unfortunately took both my wives. Our end, my friend!

This book takes a probing look at how Spanish poets of the twentieth century read objects of visual art, write poems that utilize the discursive strategy known as ekphrasis, and how, in turn, they are read by those texts. As a result of their reading practices, the artistic works "read" by the poets are inscribed in the poets' own texts, and in a variety of ways. This analysis sheds light on the poets' own distinctive stance toward many primary issues, such as textuality, representation, language, power, ideology, literature, and art.

You are doing it on your exercise book, beer coasters, the bench in the park, the school toilet, in the sand, during courses or while on the phone: to doodle, scrawl, scribble or just to daub is a basic need to express creativity. We know this already, but what this volume introduces is the idea that absent mindedly made images can be the beginning of the best ideas you have ever had, rather than just an outlet that can be forgotten about.

'The Snake and the Cuttlefish' is a joint collection of poems, musings, scribbles and scrawls: an attestation to the unrefined, fragmentary journey of life. The tears, the laughter, the pain, the relief, the joy that comes with being exactly where you are supposed to be. Written with simple words, this collection navigates its way through the complex topics of relationships, being biracial, dealing with loss and trauma, and the sometimes beautiful, sometimes challenging reality of being a Woman. Through this collection we hope to take you on a journey from light through to dark and back to the light again. All the proceeds from the sale of our book will be put towards our respective projects of setting up an educational institution in The Gambia and an outdoor education school.
