Brad Reid now lives in Los Angeles but he spent most of his younger days growing up in the high deserts of Southern California. It's been years since he's seen any desert, but while on an important business trip he must drive through an isolated section of New Mexico. When he sees the sun rise over the vast desert horizon for the first time in a great while, he experiences an awakening; something deep within himself that he had lost long ago. Soon after, he decides to try to reclaim some of the spiritual peace that he once knew and he formulates a plan which includes his two best friends and a weekend camping trip in a rugged region of that mysterious desert. Seeking enlightenment may take some convincing on his part however, in order to ensure that his friends take the journey with him. So he hires a guide. Not knowing what they're looking for and having no real idea of what to expect, they find themselves in fantastic situations; alternating between terrifying and magnificent. Their friendships are tested repeatedly and the presence of a stranger leaves them confused and bewildered more often than not. Their quest for knowledge and spiritual enlightenment takes them down a psychedelic maze which at times seems to have no ending. Once locked into the intense trip, they have no choice but to see it through to its end, but is anything really what it seems?

In September 1968, four English lads gathered together for the first time in a small, stuffy London rehearsal room in a basement filled with wall-to-wall amplifiers. It was their first big tryout as musicians, and each of them was nervous. Would they come together as a band? Or would they crash and burn, becoming nothing but a rock footnote? Then the room exploded, with wailing chords, howling vocals, and a locked-tight rhythm section—a sonic assault of heretofore unknown power. Here for the first time was Led Zeppelin: the screaming rock guitar of Jimmy Page, the scorching blues vocals of Robert Plant, the driving jazz bass of John Paul Jones, and the power drumming of John Bonham. The session was amazing, electrifying, and stunning. The Zepp had arrived. There was no turning back. And rock entertainment would never be the same again. Told by the band, the musicians, the groupies, and the fans themselves, this chronicle of one of rock's greatest and most innovative bands comes alive with the hiss of turntables, the sweat of the crowd at the Fillmore East, the hustle and bustle of backstage life, and the electricity of small clubs where rock history was about to be made. It's a story about a band's influence on two impressionable guys, and the countless others who came to get the Led out and stayed to become part of rock 'n' roll legend. With exclusive and rare photos

There are lots of wild stories about Led Zeppelin—some true, some false. Led Zeppelin on Led Zeppelin dishes up the facts, in the band's own words, as they saw them. It shoots down the folklore and assumptions about Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham and presents the band's full history, from when Jimmy Page was playing skiffle to the day the band was honored by the Kennedy Center for their contribution to American and global culture. Any band is an amalgam of the players, but in very special cases, those players form an entity unto itself. Led Zeppelin on Led Zeppelin captures the ideas of all of the band's members at the time they created classics like “Whole Lotta Love,” “Stairway to Heaven,” and “Kashmir” but also encapsulates the idea of the band itself as it crafted the music that changed pop culture. In the process, the book offers insight into what made Led Zeppelin tick—and what made it the most popular band in the world. In a series of over fifty interviews from 1957 to 2012, many never before seen in print, this is the story of Led Zeppelin, as it happened, told by the people who knew it best—the members of the band.

How one man's mid-career crisis turned into an odyssey into the weirder side of American life. Like most of us, Geoff Steward was rocked by 2016's litany of horrors. Unlike most of us, Geoff did something about it. Turning his back on his day job as a lawyer - and the requirement to account for every six minutes of his time - Geoff set off across America in hot pursuit of bears, honky-tonk bars and, above all, nice Americans to restore his faith in the world. Armed only with his blend of waspish wit and mischievous charm, Geoff roamed from New York to Alaska, meeting ordinary Americans such as Joe le Taxi, the former NYPD police officer who was one of the first on the scene at the Twin Towers; Pam and Bob, a paranoid psychiatrist and a failed actor who once saw the back of Meryl Streep's head; and Sheriff Duke of Calhoun County, who reintroduced Geoff to the long (and armed) arm of the law. For anyone at a crossroads, contemplating a temporary or permanent career break, this hilarious travel romp offers a new hope.

William S Burroughs And The Cult Of Rock N Roll written by Casey Rae and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-11 with Biography & Autobiography categories.
A history of the writer’s impact on some of the biggest names in rock music from the Beatles to Bowie, and his role as a secret architect in the genre. William S. Burroughs’s fiction and essays are legendary—but his influence on music’s counterculture has been less well documented―until now. Examining how one of America’s most controversial literary figures altered the destinies of many notable and varied musicians, William S. Burroughs and the Cult of Rock ‘n’ Roll reveals the transformations in music history that can be traced to Burroughs. A heroin addict and a gay man, Burroughs rose to notoriety outside the conventional literary world; his masterpiece, Naked Lunch, was banned on the grounds of obscenity, but its nonlinear structure was just as daring as its content. Casey Rae brings to life Burroughs’s parallel rise to fame among daring musicians of the 1960s, ‘70s, and ‘80s, when it became a rite of passage to hang out with the author or to experiment with his cut-up techniques for producing revolutionary lyrics (as the Beatles and Radiohead did). Whether they tell of him exploring the occult with David Bowie, providing Lou Reed with gritty depictions of street life, or counseling Patti Smith about coping with fame—the stories of Burroughs’s backstage impact will transform the way you see America’s cultural revolution―and the way you hear its music. “[Rae] writes with the passion of a teenager discovering new sounds, and the control and self-assuredness of a seasoned academic . . . William S. Burroughs and the Cult of Rock ‘n’ Roll celebrates not only the gifted mind and bizarre life of a writer who changed literature forever with his magic and ideas; it also finally gives him the place he deserves in the pantheon of rock and roll.” —NPR “William S. Burroughs was as much a quiet rock star as he was an artist or a writer. His inroads into audio, spoken word, and music created paths that we still follow. Casey Rae’s book is a labor of love that offers a map to understanding Burroughs’s complex relationship to music and other art forms.” —Chris Stein, co-founder of Blondie “[A] fascinating new book . . . Rae is an engaging storyteller and often an enlightening one . . . I’m grateful for Rae’s study and recommend it highly, not only to those (still) interested in Burroughs and rock music, but to anyone curious about the possibilities for creative synergy between the arts.” —Journal of Popular Music Studies
