As a Psychotherapist raised and still living in the diverse mega-city that is NYC, I have helped hundreds of women from all races, ethnicities, and cultures cope with their distressing feelings and thoughts about their mothers. However, what makes me especially inclined to write about the nuanced difficulties of Latina mothers is my experience in facilitating groups with Latinx individuals (gender-neutral term for Latinas and Latinos) struggling with their mothers. Being involved in these groups has brought clarity to the similar and overarching complaints that many Latinx folks experience. The guide intends to help you explore the psychological consequences of having a mother with difficult behaviors. I also want to help you set boundaries and act towards your self-validation and self-protection. I want to help you remother (or reparent) yourself--to help you build your self-reliance, self-worth, and self-compassion. By building a better relationship with yourself, I also want to assist you in creating better relationships with others: whether it's in your friendships, romantic partnerships, or as a parent!Regarding the title of this project: I do not want to promote a false narrative that Latina moms are inherently "difficult" or all the same. Hence, I describe some of their behaviors and personality traits as "difficult," not who they are.I dedicate this guide to my Latinx community!Jasmine Cepeda is a Latinx psychotherapist working in private practice in Brooklyn.

Essential reading for health and mental health administrators, community agencies, and policy makers as well as students and general interest readers, this book details the state of the physical and mental health of many Latina/o American groups. While Latina/o Americans originate from more than 25 countries, most health or mental health texts largely focus on Mexican Americans and often fail to address other Latina/o groups, such as South Americans, Central Americans, Puerto Ricans, and others. Moreover, most works address either health or mental health, but not both together. In contrast, Latina/o American Health and Mental Health addresses both the health and mental health of diverse Latina/o heritage groups. An interdisciplinary approach enables readers to identify both similar and divergent areas that affect the health and mental health of Latina/o Americans. Strengths-based and social justice perspectives, rather than a deficit perspective, guide the work in its assessment of disparities among treatment for different groups. This text is ideal for graduate students, practitioners, researchers, and policy makers in public health, community health, family studies, psychology, counseling, social work, and Latina/o studies who are interested in understanding Latina/o health and mental health in the United States and providing culturally responsive services.

Social Work With Latinos written by Melvin Delgado and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-27 with Social Science categories.

The focus on Latinos in the United States has generally overlooked key social-economic-political dimensions that are not only growing in importance, but may ultimately hold an important key to how well this group does in the immediate and distant future in the country. The approximate ten-year period since this text's initial publication has witnessed an increase in scholarship and new social-political-economic developments regarding this population group. Social Work with Latinos, Second Edition captures these advances and adds to the existing body of work in this area. In particular, this revised edition provides an up-to-date demographic profile; identifies the rewards and challenges for the development of social work interventions focused on Latinos; includes a conceptual foundation from which to develop social work strategies for outreach, engagement, service-provision, and evaluation; features a series of case illustrations to highlight how cultural competency/humility can unfold to better reach this population group; grounds the Latino experience within a social, economic, cultural, and political context; and provides recommendations for social work education, research and practice.

Solving Latino Psychosocial And Health Problems written by Kurt C. Organista and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-19 with Education categories.

How do we understand the tendency for Latinos to underutilize certain social services and what types of outreach and intervention strategies are beginning to remedy this longstanding problem? How are Latino psychosocial and health problems shaped by historical and current conditions of acculturation and adjustment, social stratification, ethnic/racial identity development, diversity within Latinos, and politics and social policy? And what are the best and most promising practices for addressing Latino psychosocial and health problems and how could they be improved? The book responds to the increasing need to understand Latino positionality in the U.S. in order to effectively serve Latinos in ways responsive to the cultural and social realities of diverse Latino populations. Author Kurt C. Organista responds to the needs of social and human service providers to be more effective in their increasing practice with Latino clients, as well as to professional mandates to teach multicultural theory and practice throughout the social sciences. Organista provides a comprehensive and up to date review and analysis of psychosocial and health problems over-affecting Latino populations in the United States, as well as their mitigation through evidence-based, culturally adapted, and community-based interventions, programs, and institutions. One of the first of its kind, this book integrates, critiques, and expands upon state of the art Latino-relevant social science theory, psychosocial and health research, practice intervention methods, and also applies a social justice lens to Latino-relevant social problems, including their political context, impacting Latino health and wellbeing.

Health Care In America Separate And Unequal written by Kant Patel and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-28 with Business & Economics categories.

The American health care system is a unique mix of public and private programs that critics argue has produced a two-tier system - one for the rich and the other for the poor - that delivers dramatically unequal care and leaves millions of Americans seriously underinsured or with no coverage at all. This book examines the root causes of the inequalities of the American health care system and discusses various policy alternatives. It systematically documents the demands on and the performance of our health care system for different population groups as defined on the basis of gender (women), age (children), race and ethnicity (African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans), and residence in high poverty areas (rural and inner city locales). For each population, the book documents: historical and demographic profile, data on health status, aspects of inequality including access; quality of care; and endemic, cultural, and lifestyle issues affecting health; policies, laws, and programs relevant to health care; and, indicators of improvement or negative trends.
