This thesis analyzes and explores the design of controlled networked dynamic systems - dubbed semi-autonomous networks. The work approaches the problem of effective control of semi-autonomous networks from three fronts: protocols which are run on individual agents in the network; the network interconnection topology design; and efficient modeling of these often large-scale networks. The author extended the popular consensus protocol to advection and nonlinear consensus. The network redesign algorithms are supported by a game-theoretic and an online learning regret analysis.

Aiming to outline the vision of realizing automated and intelligent communication networks in the era of intelligence, this book describes the development history, application scenarios, theories, architectures, and key technologies of Huawei's Autonomous Driving Network (ADN) solution. In the book, the authors explain the design of the top-level architecture, hierarchical architecture (ANE, NetGraph, and AI Native NE), and key feature architecture (distributed AI and endogenous security) that underpin Huawei's ADN solution. The book delves into various key technologies, including trustworthy AI, distributed AI, digital twin, network simulation, digitization of knowledge and expertise, human-machine symbiosis, NE endogenous intelligence, and endogenous security. It also provides an overview of the standards and level evaluation methods defined by industry and standards organizations, and uses Huawei's ADN solution as an example to illustrate how to implement AN. This book is an essential reference for professionals and researchers who want to gain a deeper understanding of automated and intelligent communication networks and their applications.

UAV swarm network has been used in many critical applications, such as disaster recovery, area surveillance, weather monitoring, and military communications. There are many challenging R&D issues in UAV network designs, such as the hardware/software integration for a large-scale UAV network management, long-distance data transmissions among UAVs, swarm shape/formation control, and intelligent UAV mobility/position prediction. This book will be the first one to cover the engineering designs (especially network protocol designs) for dynamic, large-scale UAV network. It has the technical models/algorithms and protocol specifications for practical UAV swarm network deployment. Features: Includes chapters written by professors, researchers, engineers, and experts in UAV networking fields Details network protocol descriptions for practical engineering designs Covers 7-layer protocols (particularly data routing layer) Presents novel AI models/algorithms for intelligent UAV swarming/networking control Highlights practical hardware/software implementations for advanced UAV networks This book is suitable to a variety of audiences: (1) industry UAV R&D engineers, administrators, or technicians, who would like to grasp the latest trends in UAV communications; (2) college graduate students or researchers, who may want to pursue some advanced research on large-scale UAV swarming and networking technologies; (3) government agencies that determine the future society development in this exciting field; and (4) other interested readers with a strong desire to understand the challenges of designing a QoS-oriented UAV network. The book editors are: Dr. Fei Hu, Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA; Dr. Xin-Lin Huang, Professor in Information and Communication Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai, China; and Dr. DongXiu Ou, Professor in Transportation Information Institute at Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

The Illustrated Network: How TCP/IP Works in a Modern Network, Second Edition presents an illustrated explanation on how TCP/IP works, using consistent examples from a working network configuration that includes servers, routers and workstations. Diagnostic traces allow the reader to follow the discussion with unprecedented clarity and precision. True to its title, there are 330+ diagrams and screenshots, as well as topology diagrams and a unique repeating chapter opening diagram. Illustrations are also used as end-of-chapter questions. Based on examples of a complete and modern network, all the material comes from real objects connected and running on the network. The book emphasizes the similarities across all networks, since all share similar components, from the smallest LAN to the global internet. Layered protocols are the rule, and all hosts attached to the Internet run certain core protocols to enable their applications to function properly. This second edition includes updates throughout, along with four completely new chapters that introduce developments that have occurred since the publication of the first edition, including optical networking, cloud concepts and VXLAN. - Gives the reader insights into the most up-to-date network equipment, operating systems and router vendors - Presents an illustrated explanation on how TCP/IP works with consistent examples from a working network configuration that includes servers, routers, and workstations - Contains over 330 Illustrations, screen shots, topology diagrams, and a unique repeating chapter opening diagram to reinforce concepts
