[Astract] This study addresses the question, What is the experience of discovering the calm in the eye of the storm?" Personal experiences are described and explored using the heuristic research model. Heuristic investigation was used because of the intimate and solitary nature of the phenomenon of journeying to serenity. Through the Heuristic investigation, a deep level of understanding of the phenomenon was allowed to surface. A literature review of books, journals and dissertations revealed that no similar study had been completed, but did reveal a wealth of material on various aspects of a deep felt sense of calm and how one might discover it in the midst of a personal life crisis. The material for the study was obtained through self-searching and co-researcher participation and was deemed original by the researched. An immersion into the researcher's own experiencing of discovering the calm in the eye of the storm was undertaken by the researcher. Data was obtained from nine co-researchers' personal experiences of journeying to serenity. Six co-researchers were women and three were men. Each interview as tape-recorded, transcribed and reviewed for themes. All major themes, which emerged from these interviews, and the researcher's self-searching, were identified and illustrated. The identified themes were: I. Personal crisis involving intense pain/trauma, II. Point of No Return, III. Openness/Willingness to change, IV. Peak Experience, V. Anchors, VI. Continued Unfolding. Five subthemes were identified and illustrated under the major theme of Peak Experience. These were: Loss of Fear, Being one with all, that is Tacit knowing, Dichotomies are Transcended or Resolved, Peace/Serenity. The identified themes depicted the process the co-researchers underwent in their own personal times of intense pain that led to the discovery of the calm that gave them hope, clarity, and understanding. Discovering the calm in the eye of the storm for the co-researchers, is an ongoing process of embracing the polarities of life, while seeking movement towards healing. The findings of this study could be used by educators, clinicians, and medical professionals
