Governing the complexity of contemporary multicultural societies poses major challenges and a constant tension between substantial equality, the right to difference and social order. Tools, paths and strategies to integrate different communities and individuals within the same horizon of rights and duties are essential to give life to new types of citizenship and to a new sense of belonging. The volume aims to open a critical reflection on the subject, allowing to combine the theoretical horizon with the effectiveness of the law, by analysing four relevant experiences in the European panorama: United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy. These are experiences that propose different models and mechanisms of integration, but which are all crossed by the need to research and experiment innovative and effective paths to cope with one of the most delicate challenges of our time.

How do migration and integration change when ‘crisis becomes normalcy’? This open access book investigates this question in the present context of turbulent times when, instead of dealing with one crisis, migrants, governments and whole societies have to cope within a complex web of multiple unsettling events that create anxieties about migration. Emphasising a plurality of theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches, as well as a variety of geographical settings in Europe and beyond, the chapters bring new insights into migrations produced by global political events, national political shifts, economic downturns and the Covid-19 pandemic. Special attention is given to both migrants’ experiences and policy outcomes. The result is an impressive rethinking of the concepts and terminology applied to migration and integration, of interest to students, social scientists, and policy-makers.

Il volume approfondisce il dibattito sulla parità di genere nel linguaggio presente già alla fine degli anni Ottanta, quando Alma Sabatini evidenzia il carattere androcentrico dell’italiano nelle scelte linguistiche dei/delle parlanti. Oggi come allora, per garantire pari visibilità ai generi, si tratta di rispettare le ‘normali’ regole grammaticali della lingua. Il volume raccoglie le riflessioni di linguisti/e invitando a sviluppare nei contesti formativi una maggiore sensibilità al principio di uguaglianza tra i generi, presentando esempi di buone e cattive pratiche nella comunicazione pubblica, pedagogica e didattica. This volume addresses the teaching and learning of vocabulary in Italian L2 from different points of view, defining an updated and heterogeneous framework.
