"Representing the fruit of in-depth dynamics it invites us to give all necessary attention to the concepts of conflict, cooperation and competition. By reflecting on the possible articulations of these concepts and attempting to apply them in diverse fields of social science the editors give voice to those who are studying the world as it is and perform the service of returning a set of concepts, approaches or paradigms to their legitimate place." - Michel Wieviorka, President, International Sociological Association This ISA Handbook presents and tracks the transformation of the societies and social relations that characterize the twenty-first century. The volume is organized around a conceptualization of three processes that are fundamental to the analyses of micro, meso and macro social relations: conflict, competition, and cooperation. In addition to chapters that delve into sociological theory, case studies and overviews of subfields discuss and contextualize debates from an international perspective, incorporating relevant material about North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Chapters on topics and fields crucial to the experience of people around the world include, among others: childhood studies, consumption, hunger, labour studies, peace-keeping, law, health, sport, and welfare. Systematic and informed, the handbook will serve readers in all branches of the social sciences, providing both experienced researchers and novices with the materials to explore the different domains of contemporary life.

Mega Sociology written by Adam Podgórecki and has been published by IPSiR UW this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-08 with Social Science categories.

Mega-sociology is the last book written by Adam Podgórecki. He was working on its final version when he died on August 18, 1998, of heart attack. The revisions he intended to make did not concern the main ideas of this book, rather he planned a thorough re-working of its structure to make their presentation more focused and effective. After much deliberation, I have decided to have the manuscript published without any editing that might have inadvertently distorted the Author’s intentions. The concept of megasociology is about making sociology relevant by placing it in the social context of specific societies and their values, and thereby, enabling a culturally appropriate, organic social action. It grew out of Podgórecki’s concern with the ‘invasion of dilettantes’ in sociology, led by ideologues, who created abstract, detached from social reality pseudo-theories designed primarily for their own aggrandizement. It was also a next step in his almost life-long search for the best way to approach the task of helping societies to live better.

Resilience And Sustainability In Law written by Marco Ettore Grasso and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-04 with Philosophy categories.

This work considers the conceptual assumptions related to the sphere of sustainability, and presents insights into the topic of resilience in this regard. It utilizes critical and logical-analytical methods, typical of philosophical disciplines, contemplating in a creative and original way various theories related to different issues connected with sustainability and resilience. The book critically examines theoretical approaches to sustainability, which are particularly evident in environmental law, bringing them into discussion with a new vision of sustainability, increasingly close to emergency scenarios. Sustainability law has grown recently, though discussions about its qualifications and its practical operations have also emerged. The book illustrates a new theoretical possibility concerning the study of resilience in this regard, criticizing some preexisting categories, and providing a new innovative, clear and linear vision of the topic.

This book offers a fresh and original approach to the study of one of the dominant features of the twentieth century. Adopting a truly global approach to the realities of modern dictatorship, this handbook examines the multiple ways in which dictatorship functions - both for the rulers and for the ruled - and draws on the expertise of more than twenty five distinguished contributors coming from European, American, and Asian universities. While confronting the immense complexities of repression and popular response under dictatorship, the volume also poses a series of wide-ranging questions about the political organization of present-day mass society.
