A candid and insightful memoir in which the author, a psychotherapist, self-discloses the tragedies of her personal life and how she overcame them. When her life fell apart, not once, but three times in quick succession, the author was devastated. Here she tells how she created a "recipe" for not only healing, but transforming the pain of tragedy and loss into new growth and spiritual deepening. Using what she learned from the painful end of a happy marriage, betrayal by the next man she loved, and the violent death of her daughter, she put her life back together, piece by piece, even while plagued by illness, inspired and supported by the five "ingredients" of the recipe. The journey brought her to a place of joy she had never imagined possible. Her "recipe", for the reader who wishes to embark on a similar journey to peace, purpose, and joy, is included at the end of the book. This uplifting story will be of interest to general readers, especially those who enjoy creative non-fiction, including memoir; anyone who is grieving; and to psychotherapists treating issues of loss, bereavement, trauma, and depression.

About The Authors and Their Motivation At first impression, the thought that we can actually heal from the pain of trauma or deep loss may seem like a fallacy. For those grieving a loved one's death or maiming, it may even seem disrespectful to their memory. After any type of tragedy, it may feel as though being truly happy again is impossible, or something we 'should' feel guilty for desiring. Yet, deep down inside, our hearts yearn for peace and joy. We do not take for granted the impact of trauma or loss, and the resulting grief. We also do not take lightly the process of recovering from experiencing tragedy. This program was birthed out of inspiration received after our own personal struggles to deal with traumatic experiences, deep personal losses and the resulting grief... with little support. We are not Psychology or Medical professionals, nor are we Counselors. We simply have walked the path from grief to "healed" when there was no formal program to help and no one to show us a prescription for healing. Through witnessing the rapid increase of horrors being perpetrated on First Responders, such as Law Enforcement professionals, we were urgently compelled to support Police, Firefighters and other First Responders who endure trauma, loss and the resulting grief. Scott feels a kinship with these great people. As an Army Veteran he has experienced many of the traumas of military life (such as repeatedly being torn away from family by deployments, even as his infant son was dying; and personally witnessing many deaths). He found himself forced to cope alone; with no one safe to talk to about ugly realities that violently assault the psyche, clash with any sense of reason, and mockingly steal serenity. He spent years trying to reconcile within his own mind the many haunting memories, until he found relief through talking it out with trustworthy brothers and sisters, and working through it with God's help. In addition to Scott's Army experiences, we have both endured many life changing traumas and losses, individually and as a couple. Some of what we've undergone has included the death of an infant - and only - child; growing up in alcoholic homes, witnessing and being victims of ongoing domestic violence; loss of entire family and a plunge into homelessness; giving up an only child for adoption; divorce; and more. Miraculously, when we were all but ready to give up, we pressed on. Some told us our situations were hopeless, even suggesting that we resign ourselves to that "fact"; a suggestion that, if accepted, would extinguish all hope and essentially steal life itself from anyone. But The Truth is greater than facts! And, by grace, we have come to a place we called "healed". It is a place of acceptance, peace, purpose and - yes - joy! It is through our journeys (individually and as a couple), and from this place of healed, that we received the inspiration for this program. We came to learn and understand from experience that there IS a prescription for how to heal from the pain of deep loss. It is a prescription established in ancient times. And we have found it to still be effective today. Yet, it has been lost to modern, western society. So countless, disheartened souls tragically suffer in silence and search aimlessly for answers, with little or no support, as we ourselves did for many years. This should not be so! There is hope! We believe there is a prescribed path to HEALED. Although each person's journey to healing is unique, and there is no "right" way to grieve, the path described in this program arm participants with empowering tools for overcoming the pain of trauma. We have experienced it ourselves and have walked alongside hundreds of others as they've too have come to know peace. It is a healing process prescribed by our very Creator. And it is available to anyone who is willing to apply His Word.
