This book focuses on negotiation processes and how negotiation modeling frameworks and information technology can support these. A modeling framework for negotiation as a purposeful complex adaptive process is presented and computer-implemented in the first three chapters. Two game-theoretic contributions use non-cooperative games in extensive form and a computer-implemented graph model for conflict resolution, respectively. Two chapters use the negotiators' joint utility distribution to provide problem structure and computer support. A chapter on cognitive support uses restructurable modeling as a framework. One chapter matches information technologies with negotiation tasks. Another develops computer support based on preference programming. Two final chapters develop a stakeholder approach to support system evaluation, and a research framework for them, respectively. Negotiation Processes: Modeling Frameworks and Information Technology will be of interest to researchers and students in the areas of negotiation, group decision/negotiation support systems and management science, as well as to practising negotiators interested in this technology.

This textbook provides a comprehensive introduction to the international negotiation system – its key elements and processes, what major issues and challenges it faces, and its impacts on international relations. As a major catalyst of global dynamics, negotiation is used to resolve conflicts and promote cooperation peacefully. It is important to understand how it works. First, the book analyzes the principal factors that interact to move the negotiation system forward – the issues and context, actors, structures, strategies, and outcomes. Then, the discussion considers the four basic subprocesses of international negotiation – getting to the table, conducting negotiations, developing implementation plans, and continuing negotiations in the post-agreement period. Relevant research is presented in each chapter to elaborate on these dynamics and offer case studies of negotiations addressing intrastate conflict, the environment, terrorism, anti-corruption and good governance, and post-agreement issues. In addition, the book examines major conflictual conundrums currently facing the world in the Middle East and Ukraine to explore opportunities for negotiated solutions. Providing a solid mix of theory, research, and real-world cases that offers readers a comprehensive appreciation of the field and how it is used on a practical level, this is an excellent basic text for courses on international relations, peace studies, conflict resolution, and international negotiations, and a useful resource for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.

Providing Global Public Goods written by Inge Kaul and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-01-16 with Business & Economics categories.
Elaborating on the concepts first introduced in Global Public Goods, this book addresses the long overdue issue of how to adjust the concept of public goods to today's economic and political realities. The production of global public goods requires the orchestration of initiatives by a large number of diverse actors across different levels and sectors. It may require the collaboration of governments, business and civil society, and in most cases it almost certainly calls for an effective linkage of the local, national, regional, and global levels. In light of today's new realities, this book examines a series of managerial and political challenges that pertain to the design and implementation of production strategies and the monitoring and evaluation of global public goods provision. As participatory decision-making enhances the political support for - and thus the effectiveness of - certain policy decisions, this volume offers suggestions on a number of pragmatic policy reforms for bringing the global public more into public policy making on global issues. Nine case studies examine the importance of the global public good concept from the viewpoint of developing countries, exploring how and where the concerns of the poor and the rich overlap.Providing Global Public Goods offers important and timely suggestions on how to move in a more feasible and systematic way towards a fairer process of globalization that works in the interests of all.

This Handbook combines a review of negotiation research with state-of-the-art commentary on the future of negotiation theory and research. Leading international scholars give insight into both the factors known to shape negotiation and the questions that we need to answer as we strive to deepen our understanding of the negotiation process. This Handbook provides analyses of the negotiation process from four distinct perspectives: negotiators' cognition and emotion, social processes and social inferences, communication processes, and complex negotiations, covering trade, peace, environment, and crisis negotiations. Providing an introduction to key topics in negotiation, written by leading researchers in the field, the book will prove insightful for undergraduate students. It also incorporates an excellent summary of past research as well as highlights new directions negotiation research might take which will be valuable for postgraduate students and academics wishing to expand their knowledge on the subject.
