Diese Studie besch„ftigt sich sowohl mit dem amerikanischen Horrorfilm Ende der 60er/Anfang der 70er Jahre, insbesondere dem Splatterfilm, als auch mit dem Horrorfilm von heute, der in den Medien und der Umgangssprache oft als Torture Porn bezeichnet wird. Dabei soll insbesondere auf die Frage eingegangen werden, wie und warum es dazu kommen konnte, dass ausgerechnet innerhalb dieser beiden Zeitperioden die Bildsprache der Horrorfilme gewalthaltiger wurde als jemals zuvor. Hierzu wird insbesondere auf die Spiegeltheorie Bezug genommen: Inwiefern liefern nicht Filme die Vorlagen fr reale Ereignisse, sondern reflektieren, ganz im Gegenteil zu dieser weit verbreiteten These, selbst ihre Entstehungszeit sowie deren soziale, kulturelle und politische Hintergrnde? Zun„chst werden hierzu wichtige Grundkenntnisse ber den Horrorfilm vermittelt, um auch dem Leser einen Einblick geben zu k”nnen, der sich bisher nur vom H”rensagen mit Horrorfilmen besch„ftigt hat. Im Zuge dieser Ausfhrungen werden zudem einige allgemeine Begriffe erkl„rt, auf die sich diese Arbeit fortw„hrend beziehen wird, wie beispielsweise der des ?Monsters?. Was kennzeichnet es? Warum ist es so, wie es ist? Und wieso eignet sich ausgerechnet der Horrorfilm zur Reflexion seiner Gesellschaft? Anschlieáend wird auf das Amerika der 70er Jahre eingegangen, wobei nach dessen Wirtschaftspolitik und einem šberblick ber die Medien dieser Zeit, ein Querschnitt durch die Gesellschaft und deren politische Fhrung gemacht wird. Im Anschluss an die jeweiligen Kapitel werden hierbei erste Interpretationsversuche und -m”glichkeiten aufgezeigt, die aufgrund der wirtschaftlichen, gesellschaftlichen und politischen Lage seinerzeit sowohl bereits ergrndet wurden, als sich auch erweiternd anbieten. Das dritte Kapitel besch„ftigt sich eingehend mit der Wirtschaftspolitik unter George W. Bush. Hier werden bereits erste Parallelen zu den 70er Jahren deutlich, was sowohl die wirtschaftliche Situation als auch deren Reflexion in den Horrorfilmen angeht. Im Anschluss daran werden soziokulturelle und -politische Str”mungen untersucht, wie beispielsweise der Umgang mit Brgerrechten und Krisen. Abschlieáend findet sich auch hier ein Unterpunkt zur Repr„sentation und Rolle der Medien in der heutigen Zeit und deren Reflexion im Film. Im Anschluss daran kl„rt das vierte Kapitel, das wohl auff„lligste Merkmal der beiden Subgenres, n„mlich die Bildsprache. Welche Auswirkungen hat der Konsum gewalthaltiger Filme auf das Verhalten von Menschen? Wer beeinflusst wen? Welche Grnde lassen sich fr die Entwicklung von Nosferatu ber Night of the Living Dead hin zu Saw finden? Und ist diese Entwicklung nicht gerade eines der Grundprinzipien des Kinos: Zeige dem Zuschauer etwas, das er zuvor noch nie gesehen hat!?

Many teens today who use the Internet are actively involved in participatory cultures—joining online communities (Facebook, message boards, game clans), producing creative work in new forms (digital sampling, modding, fan videomaking, fan fiction), working in teams to complete tasks and develop new knowledge (as in Wikipedia), and shaping the flow of media (as in blogging or podcasting). A growing body of scholarship suggests potential benefits of these activities, including opportunities for peer-to-peer learning, development of skills useful in the modern workplace, and a more empowered conception of citizenship. Some argue that young people pick up these key skills and competencies on their own by interacting with popular culture; but the problems of unequal access, lack of media transparency, and the breakdown of traditional forms of socialization and professional training suggest a role for policy and pedagogical intervention. This report aims to shift the conversation about the "digital divide" from questions about access to technology to questions about access to opportunities for involvement in participatory culture and how to provide all young people with the chance to develop the cultural competencies and social skills needed. A theory of the soundtrack is concerned with what belongs to the soundtrack, how a soundtrack is effectively organized, how its status in a multimedia object affects the nature of the object, the tools available for its analysis, and the interpretive regime that the theory mandates for determining the meaning, sense, and structure that sound and music bring to film and other audiovisual media. Beyond that, a theory may also delineate the range of possible uses of sound and music, classify the types of relations that films have used for image and sound, identify the central problems, and reflect on and describe effective uses of sound in film. This book summarizes and critiques major theories of the soundtrack from roughly 1929 until today. Rather than providing an exhaustive historical survey, it sketches out the range of theoretical approaches that have been applied to the soundtrack since the commercial introduction of the sound film. The basic theoretical framework of each approach is presented, taking into account the explicit and implicit claims about the soundtrack and its relation to other theories. The organization is both chronological and topical, the former in that the chapters move steadily from early film theory through models of the classical system to more recent critical theories; the latter in that the chapters highlight central issues for each generation: the problem of film itself, then of image and sound, of adequate analytical-descriptive models, and finally of critical-interpretative models.
