The spatial circumstances where sport events take place have to date not been a major subject of concern for historians. This book fills this gap and takes a deep look at the role of spaces in the history of sports and mass culture. The author studies the development of sport landscapes and their functions in Germany in the years between 1880 and 1930. The results show that during the classical modern period important and basic social, cultural and political processes became concentrated in the realm of sports.

Um den komplexen Hintergründen von Bauprojekten in unterschiedlichen Städten Bayerns gerecht zu werden, wählt Franz Hauner für seine regionalhistorische Untersuchung einen interdisziplinären Ansatz und geht über einen rein kunsthistorischen Blickwinkel hinaus. Die Studie zeigt, dass das traditionsbewusste katholisch geprägte Bayern sich nicht einem wie auch immer gearteten Kunstdiktat des protestantisch-preußischen Norddeutschland unterwerfen wollte, sondern bestrebt war, eine eigene Ausprägung des Neuen Bauens zu entwickeln und seine Deutungshoheit über Kunst und Architektur zu verteidigen.

This volume conceives cooperation in broad terms as any form of mutual making, in which goals, means, and procedures are seen as ongoing accomplishments. From the exchanges of goods or information, to the interactions between bodies or organizations, and the coordination between colleagues, competitors, friends or foes. Mutually making the conditions of mutual making entails translating heterogeneous interests, negotiating conflicting values and articulating distributed activities. On the one hand, the contributions cover different notions and concepts of cooperation in diverse fields of study: from the mundane cooperation of everyday life to collective endeavors within specific domains.
