Single-subject research designs have been used to build evidence to the effective treatment of problems across various disciplines including social work, psychology, psychiatry, medicine, allied health fields, juvenile justice, and special education. SSD for R serves as a guide for those desiring to conduct single-subject data analysis and introduces readers to the various functions available in SSD for R, a new, free, and innovative software package written in R--the open-source statistical programming language that was written by the book's authors. This second edition of SSD for R is the most comprehensive guide to the numerous graphing and charting functions for conducting robust visual analysis including line graphs and more complex standard deviation lines. This book also contains numerous tests of statistical significance, such as t-tests, chi-squares, and the conservative dual criteria. Auerbach and Zeitlin guide readers through the analytical process based on the characteristics of their data. In addition to presentations and assignments, this new edition contains more examples and illustrations to help readers understand the wide range of functions available in SSD for R and their application to data analysis and interpretation. SSD for R is the only book of its kind to describe single-subject data analysis while providing free statistical software to do so. For more instructional videos, blogs, and a growing community of researchers interested in single-subject designs, visit the authors' website: http://ssdanalysis.com.

Stocks Bonds And The Investment Horizon Decision Making For The Long Run written by Haim Levy and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-28 with Business & Economics categories.

A century ago, life expectancy was roughly 40 years, hence all income could be consumed, as for most people, there was no need to save for retirement. Today, things have drastically changed: Life expectancy exceeds 80 years in many countries, and one should expect to live and consume many years after retirement. Thus, we have many investors with various investment horizons, where the length of the investment horizon becomes a crucial factor in determining the best investment diversification. This book analyzes the effect of the investment horizon on the optimal diversification, specifically between stocks and bonds: Should a young investor and an older investor have the same portfolio? Is it recommended to savers for retirement to change the asset allocation between stocks and bonds as they grow older, as life cycle mutual funds do in practice? Is the idiom 'stocks for the long run' backed by scientific evidence? We analyze for which horizons it is recommended to employ the popular Mean-Variance rule and for which horizons employing this rule induces an economic distortion, hence a loss to the investors. It is shown that all relevant parameters for investment choice (means, variances, and correlations) change in a non-linear way with the horizon, a fact that makes the investment horizon crucial for investment choices. Similarly, the popular Sharpe, Treynor, and Jensen performance indices vary with the assumed horizon even in the case of independence over time. To analyze all the above issues, we employ the Mean-Variance rule and Stochastic Dominance rules, as well as direct expected utility calculations.

The Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA) conferences have established themselves as a platform for bringing together researchers and practitioners from various backgrounds and all regions of the world to exchange ideas, experiences and opinions in a friendly and stimulating environment. The papers presented at the conference represent recent developments in the field and important steps towards shaping the future of applied computer science and information systems. DEXA covers a broad field: all aspects of databases, knowledge based systems, knowledge management, web-based systems, information systems, related technologies and their applications. Once again there were a good number of submissions: out of 183 papers that were submitted, the program committee selected 92 to be presented. In the first year of this new millennium DEXA has come back to the United Kingdom, following events in Vienna, Berlin, Valencia, Prague, Athens, London, Zurich, Toulouse, Vienna and Florence. The past decade has seen several revolutionary developments, one of which was the explosion of Internet-related applications in the areas covered by DEXA, developments in which DEXA has played a role and in which DEXA will continue to play a role in its second decade, starting with this conference.
