Die vierte stadtsoziologische Untersuchung der 1938 gegründeten Stadt Wolfsburg führt eine in Deutschland einmalige Langzeituntersuchung fort. Im Mittelpunkt der neuen Studie steht die Stadtentwicklungsphase, in der in Wolfsburg versucht wurde, über den Bau erlebnisorientierter Großprojekte den Charakter und das Image der Stadt neu zu bestimmen. In keiner anderen Stadt ist dieser ‚Festivalisierungsansatz‘ einerseits so konsequent und insofern auch paradigmatisch, andererseits aber auch so ortsspezifisch verfolgt worden. This volume is an interdisciplinary attempt to insert a broader, historically informed perspective into current political and academic debates on the issue of evidence and the reliability of scientific knowledge. The tensions between competing paradigms, different bodies of knowledge and the relative hierarchies between them are a crucial element of the historical and contemporary dynamics of scientific knowledge production. The negotiation of evidence is at the heart of this process. Starting from the premise that evidence constitutes a central, but also essentially contested concept in contemporary knowledge-based societies, this volume focuses on how evidence is generated and applied in practice—in other words, on “evidence in action.” The contributions analyze and compare different evidence practices within the field of science and technology, how they interlink with different forms of power, their interaction with and impact on the legal and political domain, and their relationship to other, more heterodox forms of evidence that challenge traditional notions of evidence. In doing so, this volume provides much-needed context and historical background to contemporary debates on the so-called “post-truth” society. Dass die Innenst dte diesem Wandel ebenso unterzogen sind und sein werden, ist Anlass zur weiteren Auseinandersetzung mit der Innenstadtentwicklung in Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg, in Niedersachsen, ist eine relativ junge Stadt, die erst 1938 entstanden ist. Ein Bev lkerungsr ckgang und eine beralterung der Bev lkerung sind prognostiziert. Der Imagewandel Wolfsburgs von der industriellen Wohnstadt zum Innovations- und Erlebniszentrum zeigt sich nur in Gro projekten mit weitem Ruf nach au en in Bezug auf Wirtschaft und Tourismus. Die neuen Wohnanspr che eines Innovations- und Erlebniszentrums werden dabei nicht betrachtet. Die kleinen Wohnungen der Innenstadt aus den 40er-60er Jahren entsprechen nicht mehr den heutigen Standards und Anspr chen und k nnen die Nachfrage nach familiengerechtem Wohnraum in der Innenstadt nicht erf llen. Au erdem stehen die meisten Geb ude als Gruppendenkmal unter Denkmalschutz. Ziel war es, durch ein Umbaukonzept, die Wohnsituation zentraler Wohnbereiche in der Innenstadt f r die Wolfsburger Bev lkerung aufzuwerten. Dies ist durch Umbauma nahmen und Verbesserung des Wohnumfeldes gelungen, was die Attraktivit t steigert und ein breiteres Angebot von Wohnraum f r Familien mit Kindern und junge Singles schafft. Der Kontext wurde durch Erg nzungen der vorhandenen Bebauung gepr gt. Die neuen Quartiere wurden durch den neu gestalteten Gr nraum miteinander und mit den nahe liegenden Erholungsgebieten verbunden. Jedes aufgewertete Quartier erhielt einen zentralen Gr nbereich, der durch unterschiedliche Bepflanzung und Farbgebung einen eigenen Charakter und Wiedererkennungswert gibt. Today, the world is in the most serious turmoil it has experienced for many centuries. These multiple crises arise from the fundamental mistreatment by capitalist competition of the carrying capacity of the planet. Even before coronavirus, evidently morbid symptoms of over-development led many spatial planners to write of the threat of a new Dark Age. Many advocated a return to policy decentralisation as the Covid-19 crisis demonstrated once again the failure of ‘global controller’ mindsets to manage complex systems successfully. Dislocation: Awkward Spatial Transitions is a critical exploration of where spatial development processes and rules have gone wrong across many economies. The chapters lay out which mindsets have been responsible for this and gives pointers to new practices that aim to ameliorate the effects of past failings. In the first nine chapters, a mapping of key elements of the prevailing omni-crisis are summarised. These range from an exegesis of the Anthropocene, the rise of populism, the transition to neoliberalist anti-planning, and migration as planning issues with pleas for evolutionary change in spatial policy and process dynamics. Finally, a group of chapters explores the flailing as territorial governances tried to plot the rise of creative cities, 4.0 era industry and services, and in the built form, the role of 'starchitects' in city renewal. In the last part, attention is devoted to territorial innovation, knowledge recombination, sustainable mobility and, finally, green entrepreneurship, as necessary elements of a post-coronavirus, climate change mitigation and sustainable mobility set of survival strategies.
