GROWING UP IN POVERTY, every day is a battle with fear, stress, and anxiety. Mistakes, misreads, misplays, miscalculations: all can end in missed opportunities that may never come again. The struggles of the poor demand courage, stamina, constant re-ordering of priorities, and the need for winning strategies. Salespeople—from entry-level cold callers to wily veterans—suffer much the same anxieties but lack the street-smart skills that a deeply deprived childhood demands: adapt or die, while still having fun! Author Anthony Belli is a millionaire high-performance salesman and sales force manager who grew up dirt poor in East Harlem, New York. Often hungry and without a cent in his pocket, as a child, Belli became expert in the highly creative art of person-to-person negotiation using a variety of risk- managed, cash-producing techniques to underwrite his next slice of pizza, tactics he describes as "eating without stealing." The Street-Smart Salesman imparts Belli's hard-earned wisdom and advice to the lasting benefit of a salesperson's bottom line and ability to sleep at night. Populated with real-life characters from Belli's old neighborhood—deadbeat landlord, hooker with a heart, mobbed-up candy store owner, countless junkies, winos, and wiseguys—this unflinching memoir teaches how the survival skills of the honest poor can be used to maximize success in sales. Belli's wholly unconventional, ghetto-tested strategies include: Minimize cold-calling: Using customers' networks to supply your pipeline Recognition that sales are driven by emotions—not logic, and not price Playing dumb: When to talk and when to shut up Why hope is your enemy—and reality your friend Ways to play a last-minute balky customer Prioritizing for profit And more! Belli's hard-earned insights defy conventional sales training wisdom by valuing humility, creativity, attention, and improvisation over the vaunted one-two punch of ceaseless script recitation accompanied by free samples. Take his advice to heart, and watch your anxiety recede as your fortunes grow.

The practice of "habit stacking" is not new to any of us - we do it subconsciously all the time. Simply put, habit stacking is the building up of routines. The wonderful thing is that we have already been habit stacking subconsciously throughout our lives. As a result, we already have routines that we follow every day without really giving them much thought. The fact that some routines already exist makes further habit stacking easy. Think about the things you do in the morning. They tend to follow the same pattern each day, right? You wake up; then you might put on the coffee, then head to the refrigerator or cupboard for items to make breakfast. Once you settle down to eat, you may start with your first cup of coffee and the morning news before you eat anything else. That's habit stacking - a routine where one activity naturally follows (or precedes) another. You are unlikely to miss out on the day's news because catching up with what's going on is an easy part of your routine. It's a good habit that you just do naturally. This book is created to present you with a novel approach to habit stacking. It does more than give you a list of routines to put in your daily life. What it does, is take you step-by-step through the process of habit formation - from the physical development of strong neuron connections in the brain to the intangible concepts of consciousness and self-image. Within its pages, you will find useful information on how to ensure that your stacked habits become a part of who you are for life. You are guided through habit selection, not by being told which habits you should incorporate into your routines, but by showing you what has been proven to work and how. Sufficient information is provided for you to understand the concept of autosuggestion and to be able to use it in the formation of new habits and a new self-image. The book is written in a practical and encouraging tone to give you all the motivation you need to take on habit stacking as a driver of your success. Reading this book will change the the way you think and manage your life: This Is Your Brain On Habits. The Thing About Habits. Self Image And Habit Formation. Autosuggestion: How to write your goal card. The Benefits Of Forming Habits. Deciding On Which Habits To Cultivate. Identify your goals, make the habits a part of your daily routine and don't assume that your chosen habit must work Some Habits Proven To Lead To Success And Happiness and Handling The Challenges Of Habit Stacking . So much, much more information in this book. What are the bad habits that we have and how to get rid of them How to change your habits for improved health How our beliefs and sub conscious mind control almost everything we do Daily routines and how they can change your life I'm sure my book will guide you through your life

The poor health of today's roads--a subject close to the hearts of motorists, taxpayers, and government treasurers around the world--has resulted from faulty incentives that misdirect government decision-makers, according to the contributors to Street Smart. During the 1990s, bad government decision-making resulted in the U.S. Interstate Highway System growing by only one seventh the rate of traffic growth. The poor maintenance of existing roads is another concern. In cities around the world, highly political and wasteful government decision-making has led to excessive traffic congestion that has created long commutes, reduced safety, and caused loss of leisure time. Street Smart examines the privatization of roads in theory and in practice. The authors see at least four possible roles for private companies, beyond the well-known one of working under contract to design, build, or maintain governmentally provided roads. These include testing and licensing vehicles and drivers; management of government-owned facilities; franchising; and outright private ownership. Two chapters describe the history of private roads in the United Kingdom and the United States. Contemporary examples are provided of road pricing, privatizing, and contracting out are evident in environs as diverse as Singapore, Southern California, and Scandinavia, and cities as different as Bergen, Norway, and London, England. Finally, several chapters examine strategies for implementing privatization. The principles governing providing scarce resources in free societies are well known. We apply them to such necessities as energy, food, and water so why not to "road space"? The main obstacle to private, or semi-private, ownership of roads is likely to remain the reluctance of the political class to give up a lucrative source of power and influence. Those who want decisions about road services to be controlled by the interplay of consumers and suppliers in free markets, rather than by politicians, will have to explain the need for change. Street Smart makes a powerful case for the need for change and sheds light on the complex issues involved. Gabriel Roth is a transport and privatization consultant and a research fellow at the Independent Institute in Oakland, California.
