Basic Music Theory For Banjo Players written by Rick McKeon and has been published by Mel Bay Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-24 with Music categories.

This book is a "hands-on" approach to music theory with lots of playing examples for the banjo. Music theory does not have to be mysterious or difficult. In fact, taken a little bit at a time, it’s easy and fun! Each of the approximately 50 lessons in this book has a limited scope, but by the time you complete them, you will have a thorough understanding of the basics of music theory as applied to the banjo. While a single book can't cover everything in so vast a subject, the author has tried to choose topics that will address the needs of most beginning banjo players. These include: scale theory, reading tablature and standard notation, key signatures, accidentals, transposition, time signatures and note values, intervals and chord construction, the three kinds of minor scales, pentatonic scales, and more. In addition, each chapter features playing examples and review questions to both test and clarify understanding of the materials presented. Rather than proceeding from chapter to chapter, as each individual banjo player is likely at a different point in their musical journey, the reader is encouraged to “jump around and spend more time in those areas that interest you most.” The important thing about the journey is to begin. Includes access to online audio and video.

Disillusioned with business at age 50, the author found himself irresistibly drawn to the joy and sense of community that music had first brought to his youth. Inspired by this rediscovered passion, he embarked on a remarkable 12-year odyssey, capturing the stories of artisans, performers and historians of traditional music across North America now preserved in this volume. These interviewees who represent the heart and soul of old-time music include instrument builders Bart Reiter, Patrick "Doc" Huff, Pete Ross, Zachary Hoyt, Bill Rickard, and William Seeders Mosheim; old-time performers Rayna Gellert, David Holt, James "Sparky" Rucker, Clare Milliner, Mac Benford, Sheila Kay Adams, Paul Brown and John McCutcheon; and historians and authors Dwight Diller, Bill Malone, Don Flemons, and Tim Brooks.

Teaching music is not the safe and boring occupation that many think it is. In fact, it can kill you. Yes, when you go through decades of high stress environments, hundreds of vicious children and neurotic parents, sudden heart attacks are not out of the picture. And that's not even counting the treacherous terrains of music festivals and camp-outs, where dangers like free beer and Celtic musicians lurk behind every corner. Banjos in Babylon takes you on a hair-raising journey into the world of freelance music teacher Braeden Lewis. You will be taken back in time when the first music was created, when cavemen Gak and Oog popularized the thumping stick, the world's first musical instrument. You'll be plunged into the after-hours scene at festivals, where insane characters like Fiddlin Rob conduct all night jams while drunk, while laying on their back in the dirt. Banjos in Babylon is an unforgettable collection of real-life experiences, and these stories will make you laugh, wince, and maybe even shed a tear. So kick your shoes off, pour a glass of wine, and join Braeden on his adventures in Babylon... and don't forget your banjo!
