This book offers a comprehensive introduction to the theory of structural dynamics, highlighting practical issues and illustrating applications with a large number of worked out examples. In the spirit of “learning by doing” it encourages readers to apply immediately these methods by means of the software provided, allowing them to become familiar with the broad field of structural dynamics in the process. The book is primarily focused on practical applications. Earthquake resistant design is presented in a holistic manner, discussing both the underlying geophysical concepts and the latest engineering design methods and illustrated by fully worked out examples based on the newest structural codes. The spectral characteristics of turbulent wind processes and the main analysis methods in the field of structural oscillations due to wind gusts and vortex shedding are also discussed and applications illustrated by realistic examples of slender chimney structures. The user‐friendly software employed is downloadable and can be readily used by readers to tackle their own problems.

Self Healing Structures Machines And Systems written by Dryver R. Huston and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-25 with Science categories.

This book describes the behavior, underlying principles and design of self-healing materials, structures, machines, and systems. Self-healing is a ubiquitous phenomenon that appears in many systems ranging from the molecular scale up through to large macroscale systems and in domains ranging from materials such as self-healing polymers, to self-sealing tires, water distribution networks, and information systems, including control systems for damaged aircraft. Self-healing extends performance and endurance in ways that are just not possible otherwise. This book presents a unifying holistic approach to the operation and design of self-healing systems. It acts as a valuable reference for students, researchers, and engineers that are interested in understanding self-healing mechanisms and acquiring techniques to extend the performance and endurance of the structures, machines, and systems that they build, design, and study. Key Features: Describes the design, operating principles, manufacture and performance assessment of self-healing materials, structures, machines, and systems. Presents a unique holistic approach to the engineering and inclusion of self-healing into structures, machines, and systems. Topics covered includes materials, machines, vessels, structures, networks, and systems, with detailed discussions of polymers, concrete, machinery, pressure vessels, fuel tanks, knives, clothing, lasers, biohybrids, networks, and information systems.

Multiscale Methods In Computational Mechanics written by René de Borst and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-09 with Computers categories.

This work gives a modern, up-to-date account of recent developments in computational multiscale mechanics. Both upscaling and concurrent computing methodologies will be addressed for a range of application areas in computational solid and fluid mechanics: Scale transitions in materials, turbulence in fluid-structure interaction problems, multiscale/multilevel optimization, multiscale poromechanics. A Dutch-German research group that consists of qualified and well-known researchers in the field has worked for six years on the topic of computational multiscale mechanics. This text provides a unique opportunity to consolidate and disseminate the knowledge gained in this project. The addition of chapters written by experts outside this working group provides a broad and multifaceted view of this rapidly evolving field.

Structural Modeling Of Metamaterials written by Vladimir I. Erofeev and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book discusses the theoretical foundations of the structural modeling method applied to metamaterials. This method takes into account the parameters of the crystal lattice, the size of the medium particles, as well as their shape and constants of force interactions between them. It provides mathematical models of metamaterials that offer insights into the qualitative influence of the local structure on the effective elastic moduli of the considered medium and into performing theoretical estimations of these quantities. This book is useful for researchers working in the fields of solid mechanics, physical acoustics, and condensed matter physics, as well as for graduate and postgraduate students studying mathematical modeling methods.

Materials Science For Structural Geology written by Mervyn S. Paterson and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-28 with Science categories.

This book sets out the basic materials science needed for understanding the plastic deformation of rocks and minerals. Although at atmospheric pressure or at relatively low environmental pressures, these materials tend to be brittle, that is, to fracture with little prior plastic deformation when non-hydrostatically stressed, they can undergo substantial permanent strain when stressed under environmental conditions of high confining pressure and high temperature, such as occur geologically in the Earth’s crust and upper mantle. Thus the plastic deformation of rocks and minerals is of fundamental interest in structural geology and geodynamics. In mountain-building processes and during convective stirring in the Earth’s mantle, rocks can undergo very large amounts of plastic flow, accompanied by substantial changes in microstructure. These changes in microstructure remain in the rocks as evidence of the past deformation history. There are a number of types of physical processes whereby rock and minerals can undergo deformation under geological conditions. The physics of these processes is set out in this book.
