Chapters five and six discuss drug abuse in Nigerian tertiary institutions and tackling the abuse in the institutions respectively. Substances are abused much in Nigerian schools today. It affects significant number of students and therefore intervention is required. It is within this context that the researchers embarked purposefully on the study of present study "effect of drug abuse and addiction among secondary school students in Nassarawa local government area, Kano state". Methods used in collecting data were distribution of questionnaires to respondents. Additionally documentary materials, such as books, newspaper, internet, leaflet, journals related to drug abuse among students were reviewed. Data obtained were analysed by using simple percentage. This package was used because the study was explorative and it draws conclusions, opinions and confirmations from nature. According to empirical findings, the causes of drug abuse among students are evident among: Boredom with academic work or domestic activities, students that are not doing very well in school are not friends of lecturers easily get disinterested and tired with academic work. So to get occupied with pleasant thoughts and activities, they indulge in the use of hard drugs, peer group influence is also one of the strongest motives, which drive students into drug abuse.

In spite of the fact that poly-drug use and illegal use of drug is a crime, many youths still indulged in it due to the merriment moment they derive from it. In the light of these, some selected youth in Ede, Osun State made it known to the researcher that they consume drugs to reason well or meditate and to eliminate phobia. Not only that, but illicit drugs use among youths has ravaged Nigeria. The social and biological implications of drugs prevailing in the area and especially the knowledge and attitude to drug usage, the types of drugs being consumed, drug use pattern and evolving risk behaviour and factors influencing the usage of drugs among youth, thus seem worth of exploration. It is on this basis that this study examined the social and biological implication of drug usage among youths in Ede, Osun State. A questionnaire was the main instrument adopted to collect data for the study. A multistage sampling technique was adopted to reach the respondents as a result of which 200 residents of Ede at these selected communities: Orita fogo, Sagba joint, Abogunde Joint, Orita Akala, Atapara joint, Sabo agbongbe, Oke Obada joint, Owode-Ede joint, Laoye joint, Agate, Joint and Isibo Joint in Osun State were involved in the study. At the end of data collection, 200 copies of the questionnaire were retrieved and treated for data analysis. The data generated were analysed and interpreted with the aid of tabular distribution of respondents and simple frequency with percentage.

Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Pedagogy - Pedagogic Psychology, grade: 3.50, University of Ilorin, course: Educational Guidance and Counselling, language: English, abstract: This study investigated the prevalence and causes of drug abuse relapse as expressed by clients in NDLEA rehabilitation centers in North Central, Nigeria. The study also examined the influence of demographic variables of parental occupational status, educational attainment, marital status and age on respondents' views. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Censors sampling method, that is, only the available clients or respondents at all rehabilitation centers in the North central region was used. A researcher-designed questionnaire on "Prevalence and Causes of Drug Abuse Relapse" was used to collect relevant data. The instrument had reliability co-efficient of 0.69 using test re-test method. Out of 175 questionnaire forms administered, 169 were retrieved and 159 were valid for data analysis. All the hypotheses were tested using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics at 0.05 level of significance. Among other findings, the main findings of the study revealed that drug abuse relapse is moderately prevalent among clients in NDLEA rehabilitation centers in North Central, Nigeria and the main causes are easy availability of drugs, drug abuse environment, frequent passing through drug using site such as bar parlor and smoking joint, and being in companying of drug users. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that counsellors should equip the relatives and families of clients with some social skills training such as human relation skills that they can employ in persuading their wards who have received treatment to avoid returning to the company of friends or environment that can still expose them again to the abuse of drugs.
