To satisfy the demand for 24/7 information access, applications available in airport and conference kiosks, and in the mobile, gaming, and medical industries, provide consumers data access wherever they are. But it's essential that fast availability not be traded for quality performance. A prominent solution for managing the data in these applications and devices is db4othe open source object database native to the Java and .NET platforms. Highly reliable and scalable, db4o cuts down on development time by smoothly integrating into the system, cutting out the otherwise costly object-relational mapping typical of larger applications. The Definitive Guide to db4o is the first book to comprehensively cover this project in detail. You will learn about all relevant topics, including installing and configuring db4o, querying and managing objects, performing transactions, and replicating data. To aid newcomers to the topic, early chapters cover object database fundamentals, as well as technical considerations and migration strategies. The book is complete with numerous C# and Java examples, so you'll be able to follow along regardless of your chosen language.

Take a tour with leading researchers and developers for a practical look at object databases. Whether you currently work with or are thinking of moving to object databases, Chaudhri and Zicari provide a collection of real-world case studies and examples that demonstrate how some of the world's leading companies and research institutions are leveraging Java, XML, and Object Relational Systems to build robust databases. Starting with a comprehensive introduction to object and object-relational databases, the book then offers detailed discussions on some of the latest topics in the field such as JDBC and SQLJ support in relational databases and database modeling using UML. You'll also learn about object-to-relational mapping tools, architectural issues that influence performance, and the issues of complexity and scale. How popular tools from Computer Associates, eXcelon, GemStone, Objectivity, Oracle, Versant, and Poet were used in the case studies is also discussed. The companion Web site atwww.wiley.com/compbooks/chaudhri includes links to object-oriented database software applications and additional resources. Aspect Oriented Database Systems written by Awais Rashid and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-14 with Computers categories.

Recently, a set of new software development techniques – termed Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD) – has become available that aims to support modularisation of systemic properties (also referred to as crosscutting-concerns) and their subsequent composition with other parts of the system. Rashid focuses on the use of Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP) techniques to modularise otherwise broadly scoped features in database systems like the transaction or the versioning model to improve their customisability, extensibility, and maintainability. His aim is to show how the use of AOP can transform the way we develop, use and maintain database systems. He also discusses how database systems can support AOP by providing means for storage and retrieval of aspects. Aspect-Oriented Databases Systems shows the possible synergy between AOSD and database systems and is of particular interest for researchers, graduate students and software developers in database systems and applications.

th 2002 DEXA, the 13 International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications was held on September 2–6, 2002, at the Université Aix–Marseille II, France. The quickly growing field of information systems required the establishment of more specialized discussion platforms (the DaWaK conference, EC-Web conference, eGOV conference and DEXA workshops), and there were held in parallel with DEXA, also in Aix-en-Provence. The resulting book was prepared with great effort. Starting with the preparation of submitted papers, the papers went through the reviewing process. The accepted papers were revised to final versions by their authors and arranged to the conference program. This year 241 papers were submitted and our thanks go to all who have contributed. The program committee and the supporting reviewers produced altogether about 730 referee reports, on average three reports per paper, and selected 89 papers for presentation. The papers presented here encompass the extensive domain of databases; together with the other conferences and workshops of the DEXA event cluster a vast part of applied computer science was covered. In this way DEXA has blazed the trail. At this point we would like to acknowledge to all institutions which actively supported this conference and made it possible. These are: • IUT (Université Aix – Marseille II), • FAW, • DEXA Association, • the Austrian Computer Society, • and Microsoft Research
