The Analysis Of Nonlinear Feedback Sampled Data Systems written by Mangalore Anantha Pai and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1961 with Data transmission systems categories.
Various techniques are available for the analysis of nonlinear sampled-data systems. Most of these methods use either the phase plane approach or the describing function technique. Since the performance of such a system is described, at sampling instants, by means of a difference equation, an approach based on the difference equation would seem to be both natural and direct. The principle of complex convolution for a transform is explained and its geometrical interpretation is given. It is shown how the application of the convolution transform is both direct and simple with respect to solving nonlinear difference equations when the equation is given in scalar form. Dependence of the convergence of the solution on the initial value and the degree of nonlinearity is pointed out. It is concluded that for difference equations of second order and higher, this method involves too much laborious computation to justify its use. A simple method is presented for examining free oscillations in a sampled-data system containing either relay or a saturating amplifier. In addition, a certain analytical technique, analogous to that for differential equations, is developed to investigate the stability of forced oscillations for certain types of nonlinear difference equations. The current structure of the chapters reflects the key aspects discussed in the papers but the papers themselves contain more additional interesting information: examples of a practical application and results obtained for existing networks as well as results of experiments confirming efficacy of a synergistic analysis of anomaly detection and signature detection, and application of interesting solutions, such as an analysis of the anomalies of user behaviors and many others.

Selected Reading In Quantitative Urban Analysis written by Samuel J. Bernstein and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Social Science categories.
Selected Readings in Quantitative Urban Analysis focuses on the use of quantitative approaches in analyzing urban problems. The areas discussed are overall urban models; urban models dealing with the basic economic factors of urban life (workers and jobs, housing, and transportation); urban models dealing with the provision of basic services (education, health care, fire, police, water, and sanitation); urban models dealing with the provision of the luxuries of urban life (theater, ballet, symphony); urban models dealing with how the decisions to provide these factors are made (policy formulation and the resolution of conflicting priorities). This book is comprised of 11 chapters and begins with an outline of the major areas of urban life, analyzed in a quantitative manner. Urban modeling is then introduced, and problems and pitfalls in urban model building are considered. The next section looks at the economic base of urban life, with emphasis on labor markets and labor force; urban housing markets and housing policy; and policy and policy models in transportation. Subsequent chapters explore essential urban services, including public education, community health services, fire protection, sanitation, and emergency medical services. The remaining sections discuss the amenities of urban life and urban politics and policy. This monograph should be useful to urban administrators and planners as well as students interested in urban problems.

The options available to patients with implantable devices are limited. It is because there are multiple interactions between the MRI environment and the implantable medical devices. The three main components of MRI systems- static magnet, RF coil, and a gradient coil- interact with the implantable medical devices. These interactions can cause force, torque, device vibrations and RF-induced heating. Among all these potential hazards is the heating caused by the RF electromagnetic field. The lead wires of the implants can act as antennas and pick up the electric field generated by the RF coil. This results in the induced current traveling along the length of the device that will dissipate as heat where it is coupled to tissue. The combination of critically sensitive tissues and high heat makes this interaction the most significant risk for patient safety. Hence, there arises a need to design effective techniques that can minimize RF heating induced during an MRI. The technique of shielding has been proven to reduce RF-induced heating. The focus of current research is to provide analysis of shielding technique for reduction of RF-induced heating of electrodes during MRI. Shielded leads have been developed as a method to reduce RF-heating responsible for temperature rise at the electrodes. The purpose of this work is to provide a quantitative understanding of how a conducting metallic shield over a lead will reduce RF heating at the electrode during MRI scans. A physical model and equations for reduction of RF heating by a shielded lead are presented. Temperature rises are calculated for different lengths of shielded and unshielded leads. Confirming measurements are made for a quarter-wavelength coaxial cable model of the lead. Measured temperature rise and transfer function depended on terminations conditions, with the shorted lead exhibiting the temperature rise sixteen times less than an open-ended lead. The information provided by this work is expected to facilitate the development of lead wires with reduced RF-induced heating. The availability of lead wires with reduced heating will allow expanded access to MRI by patients with implantable devices.

This book offers a historical account of the development of the On-X carbon mechanical heart valve, discussing the steps involved in developing the materials, and describes how the design of the valve has evolved over the years. It explores both the scientific and corporate problems researchers have encountered over the years in the journey of making a mechanical heart valve. The chapters provide a detailed description of the design of the mechanical leaflet-based prosthetic valve, with a particular focus on blood flow characteristics. This book includes an overview of the state-of-the-art in the chemistry and physics of carbon, and compiles the advances in carbon-based technology and its applications in cardiac and thoracic surgery. This is an ideal book for bioengineers working on the chemistry and physics of carbon, and other professionals involved with cardiac and thoracic surgery.

Cross Cultural Content Analysis Of Advertising From The United States And India written by Niaz Ahmed and has been published by Universal-Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Business & Economics categories.
This cross-cultural content analysis (which merged traditional content analysis method with semiotic concepts) compared advertising in the United States (a highly individualistic and low-context culture) and India (a highly collectivist and high-context culture). The study examined the characteristics, differences and similarities in advertising strategies and expressions. A stratified random sample of advertisements for consumer products was selected from nationally circulated news magazines and business magazines of each country between January 1993 and December 1994 (Time and Business Week from the United States; India Today and Business India from India). This study found that there were significant differences in the way the two cultures produced advertising messages and that differential cultural values were reflected in their advertising expressions. The findings revealed that the U.S. advertisements utilized direct rhetorical styles, individualistic visual stances, sexual portrayals of women and comparative approaches more often than their Indian counterparts. The Indian ads utilized indirect rhetorical styles, collective visual stances and stereotypical portrayals of women more frequently than did the U.S. ads. The evidence of specific cross-cultural differences suggests that perhaps the proponents of "standardization of international advertising" have promoted an oversimplification. This cross-cultural study suggests that caution should be exercised when considering standardization in advertising and other forms of promotional communication between divergent cultures.
