Ja monia, monia muita! Tämä kirja kertoo lisäksi monenlaisista ilmiöistä ulkosaarilla. Mitä olivat pelätyt suikkaat? Mitä merkitsivät lepakot ja tuulispäät merellä? Miksi apteekkareita tapettiin? Miten meripölly ja jäähatut liittyivät talven tuloon? Tässä kirjassa kerrotaan myös ulkosaarelaisten lähdön hetkistä kotisaariltaan vuonna 1939. Jokainen heistä koki lähdön omalla tavallaan, mutta jokainen menetti silloin oman saarensa ja kotinsa. Se oli kaikille suuri menetys.

Suomi joutui luovuttamaan Hankoniemen lähisaarineen 12.3.1940 allekirjoitetun Moskovan rauhansopimuksen mukaisesti. Hankoniemen vuokra-alue oli 22.3.1940-3.12.1941 välisen ajan neuvostojoukkojen miehittämänä. Neuvostoliitto siirsi Hangon vuokra-alueelle maa-, meri- ja ilmavoimien sekä rannikkotykistön joukkoja ja sotakalustoa. Hangon vuokra-alueen neuvostojoukot muodostivat selkeän uhkan Suomen turvallisuudelle. Vuokra-alue olisi voinut toimia muutaman divisioonan maihinnousun lähtöalueena Suomen keskeisten kaupungien kuten Helsingin, Turun ja jopa Tampereen valtaukselle.
