There I go again, another piece of me chipped away. Another piece unraveled. And unlike one of my knitted pieces, this mistake would remain.Raised in a Jewish household in Connecticut, Debbie left her childhood in the groovy '60s and entered her teenage years during the disco era. Finding any excuse to escape her neglectful, abusive mother, she turned to attentive boys for attention. Then she met Ivan, her first true love. Life was looking up.Until the pregnancy test came back positive, and a botched abortion and rape left Debbie feeling undone. Only fifteen and she had hit rock bottom. Debbie's life was unraveling before her eyes. Was it too late to stitch up her mistakes? Could she hide these secrets from her mother?Darkly comedic and downright harrowing Innocence Unraveled is a revealing memoir about a young woman whose resilience led to her survival in an unkind world.

Surviving Stolen Innocence is my book and personal testimony of how I survived childhood rape. God blessed me with a warrior spirit that would not permit me to remain a victim. When a joyous event occurred in my brother's life, I was forced to face, finally, the residue of that long-buried violation. Healing is not an overnight process; it requires much work and soul searching. In bowing to the process of healing, I was able to admit I had a problem, accept that I had been sexually violated, acknowledge my self-worth, acquire a new outlook on life, and establish a new dating life with God. Additionally, I came to learn that in order for me to truly live a healthier life; I had to embrace endless hours of praying, fasting, and putting forth genuine effort. Surviving stolen innocence is an ongoing process of breaking free from the bondage of embarrassment, hurt, anger, disappointment, revenge, unforgiveness, low self-esteem, unworthiness, and any other negative emotion as a result of one's pureness of body, mind, and life being tainted by another person's immoral or unethical acts. These acts or behavior could be, but not limited to, rape, domestic or emotional abuse, bullying, false imprisonment, or murder of a loved one, etc. In essence, in spite of being a victim of a random, impure act, choose to be a victor. You are well worth the survival!

This beautifully written, non-fiction journal chronicles the struggles of East Africa in 1993 and 1994 from the perspective of a first-time medical relief worker. It is a song of praise to all those hardy souls who have been, and continue to be, deep in the thick of things without regard for their personal safety, putting the unbelievably serious needs of others first. It examines the inner frustrations faced by members of non-governmental organizations, who understand the fluidity of war zones and need to plan a year ahead with donors...which is nearly impossible. Despite this, they remain optimistic, capable, trustworthy, and supportive ... with the highest of goals. The plight of the people is heartbreaking. Having had the benefit of a post-war upbringing, the author remembers listening to BBC radio programs which, on lucky occasions, would broadcast the news of the world. These shows instilled in her young mind dreadfully delicious visions of unknown darkness and tribal warfare. In pre-TV America, absolutely everything was left to the imagination. So, how very fortunate she feels to have been able to live a life of purpose and fulfillment, spending her time in Africa giving something back to the world. Not a day goes by ungrateful!

The odds of a woman surviving the attack of a serial rapist and murderer are slim. The odds of two women surviving the same serial killer are much less. The odds of those two women knowing each other as best friends are next to none. Yet, in this memoir, Innocence Lost, you'll read about Daisy and Lisa - best friends who were raped by the same California serial killer, Joe DeAngelo. Amazingly, both survived his attacks. Even more incredible is the fact that neither Daisy nor Lisa knew their rapist was The Golden State Killer. Not until his arrest in April 2018. Innocence Lost is a powerful account of survival. A story of a victim's two-year psychologically tormenting lead up to her sexual assault, and how she survived the attack. Their stories are propelled by both their courageous spirits and the beauty of their innocence as they struggle to deal with their personal torment in their own way.
