O livro Análise de investimentos: uma abordagem sob a ótica da sustentabilidade empresarial lança um novo olhar sobre o processo de análise de investimentos, ao abordá-lo do ponto de vista da sustentabilidade organizacional. Nesse contexto, o autor parte do conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável, trazendo-o para o ambiente empresarial sob a forma da visão Triple Bottom Line que, por não considerar apenas os fatores econômicos quando da avaliação de empresas, abrange, no tocante à sua sustentabilidade, as dimensões social, ambiental e econômica, analogamente ao modelo de desenvolvimento sustentável. Para obter sustentabilidade econômica é necessário que a empresa gere uma vantagem competitiva duradoura em relação às suas rivais, advinda da criação de valor para seus clientes. Esse valor será por eles percebido se a unidade de negócio conseguir implementar estratégias competitivas genéricas, a exemplo da diferenciação — relacionada à melhoria da qualidade dos produtos e serviços oferecidos pela companhia — e liderança no custo — associada à elevação de sua produtividade e à redução de custos. Embora pareçam antagônicas, tais estratégias podem ser concomitantemente promovidas, dentre outras condições, via utilização de inovações tecnológicas, sobretudo se forem elas pioneiras, uma vez que representam o principal condutor para o aumento da produtividade da empresa e a melhoria da qualidade de seus produtos e serviços. Percebe-se, portanto, a importante contribuição que essas inovações trazem ao pilar econômico. Deve-se também, inovar visando ao crescimento humano e ao controle ambiental, o que comprova que a inovação tecnológica perpassa as três dimensões propostas pela visão Triple Bottom Line e pelo modelo de desenvolvimento sustentável. Contudo a implementação de novas tecnologias ou de qualquer projeto, além de consistente com as estratégias da empresa, precisa ter a sua viabilidade econômico-financeira comprovada. Para tanto, o autor apresenta as ferramentas disponibilizadas pelo processo de análise de investimentos e suas principais etapas: análise de mercado, orçamento e custo de capital.
