‘100 Things to Learn before you’re 10’ is an educational book to help parents. Drawing on 40 years teaching experience, it explains why every child would benefit from the little extra help it provides during their formation years. This book is packed with examples, activities, insights and stories. It helps show you how to make sure your children learn the skills they need to get the most out of school and life. Give your child what they really need so that they become happier, more confident and self assured as they learn. They will grow to be well rounded adults! It is during the first 12 years after birth that each life develops the framework for its future. Parents who are juggling the demands of modern life and work, while they are raising their children ask many questions. They may often feel their children ‘could do better’ and become very concerned if a child’s school report highlights this. However, many parents aren’t confident with changing children’s attitudes, what to teach or how to really motivate and encourage them. Especially if the children have ‘switched off’ and no longer respond to what their parents say. This book addresses these issues and questions and looks at the reasons why so many children underperform at school and what can be done about aligning them at core, so that they stay connected to the positive influences that are in them at birth. It puts forward tried and tested lessons, tools and strategies that have been developed during forty years of teaching experience and have been repeatedly proven effective with children.

The Education Committee accepts that changes to student support needed to be made, but says that the delay in deciding on allocations and the guiding principles for distribution should not have been allowed to happen. The report states that the Government should have done more to acknowledge the Educational Maintenance Allowance's (EMA) combined impact on participation, attainment and retention, before it decided how to restructure financial support. The bursary scheme which is to replace the EMA will inevitably lead to inconsistencies which could distort young people's choices of where to study. It is not persuaded that bursaries administered by schools and colleges will necessarily be fairer or more discriminating than a slimmed-down, more targeted entitlement such as the EMA. The report also highlights the difficulty of transferring data between schools and colleges and encourages the Department for Education to do more to ensure that information about pupils' needs can move easily between educational institutions. The Committee supports the Government's focus on Apprenticeships but urges it to protect quality at the same time as increasing numbers participating. It also urges the Department for Education to fund the National Careers Service to provide face-to-face careers advice for young people

Which type of education should we pay for? How much education should we pay for? Can we buy knowledge about how to improve education? Uniquely presenting a general overview of economic principles applicable to all sectors of education, Paying for Education makes key economic ideas accessible to non-economists, whilst drawing on insights from other social science disciplines. It examines the implications of its analysis, especially for two important areas of policy – paying for teachers and paying for teaching in higher education – in order to highlight some underlying issues and consider alternative policy options, as well as reflect on possible futures. The chapters examine: The value of education for the individual The value of education for society Private and public demands for education Choosing a system to supply education The cost, efficiency and equity of providing education Analysing evidence and case studies on a global scale, Paying for Education is an essential read for academics, educational administrators, policy makers, leaders in educational organisations and all of those interested in the future of how we pay for education.
