This book fills a void in the literature around how urban agricultural education can be used to create opportunities to educate youth and citizens who live in urban areas about growing food. To date, very little has been written about program design and the impact of such experiences on learning outcomes. In fact, most of the journal articles and research to date has focused on access, contextual factors, sustainability, relevance of urban agricultural education, and the intersection of science of agriculture. This book will cover such topics as how urban youth learn science while engaged in urban agriculture programs, how such programs support youth in becoming interested about healthy eating and science more generally, and how to design urban agriculture programs in support of STEM education. The chapters in this book are written by educational researchers and each chapter has been reviewed by researchers and practitioners.

The purpose of this study was to find out the problem of teaching and learning of agricultural science in tertiary institution like National Open University of Nigeria. A total sample size of fifty respondents were interviewed and administered questionnaires, the findings were analyzed and discussed. The result of the study revealed that insufficient land, inadequate simple farm tools, insufficient of improved instructional materials and lack of agricultural laboratory equipment are some of the factors affecting teaching and learning of agricultural science in area of study. It was recommended that, the government should as a matter of fact supply the relevant and much needed in teaching and learning to these tertiary institutions since science can best be learnt through experimentation. There should be provision of teachers with practical agricultural science qualification to handle the subject in schools. The objectives of the study were to: find out the current status in teaching and learning of agriculture, uncover the institutional-based challenges and determine the non-institutional challenges in the teaching and learning of agriculture in secondary schools. Descriptive Survey research design was used for the study. Questionnaire and observation checklist were used as the instrument for data collection.

The effectiveness of an extension service relies on the knowledge and communication skills of the field staff who lead discussions with farmers in order to help them identify their own problems and train them in the available solutions. Communication in extension plays an important role in technology transfer, however, many field extension workers are poorly trained in this particular area and also in the development of educational materials. This publication was prepared as a teaching and learning guide for all those working in rural communities. It can be considered as an 'extension methodology tool-box' to train extension field staff in their work at the village level.
