Teaching Within the Rhythms of the Semester is a unique and far-reaching guide to teaching and learning that is organized around the ebbs and flows of energy that occur within the time frame of a course. It combines a lively and innovative balance of theory and application with practical techniques for creating successful learning experiences at each stage in a semester.Writing in a clear, straightforward, and highly engaging manner, Duffy and Jones discuss ways of teaching and ways of learning. They model practices that instructors at every level may use to get off to a good beginning, maintain motivation in the mid-semester doldrums, and achieve successful closure at the And. Duffy and Jones offer an excellent synthesis of the principles behind effective teaching. Each chapter opens with a vignette that illustrates some of the challenges teachers encounter in the classroom and the ways both they and their students respond to them. These realistic and engaging narratives are followed by a discussion of the educational, cognitive, and affective theories at work, as well as concrete suggestions--more than one hundred throughout the book--for similar classroom situations.

As the Founder and Managing Director of SalsaEverybody.com Dance School, I am a Dance Educator, DJ, Animator, and the Organizer of the Tropical Dance Escape holiday event concept (check out our Tropical Dance Escape Facebook page). For over 30 years, I have immersed myself in the world of dance, refining my skills across a variety of styles, and I’ve been teaching for the past 15 years. During this time, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals of all skill levels—from beginners to seasoned dancers. Whether through weekly classes in Dungarvan, Dublin, and Waterford City, or private lessons for special occasions like hen nights, stag parties, and weddings, I aim to make dance accessible, fun, and transformative for all. Along the way, I've faced many challenges, but my love for dance and its ability to change lives has always driven me forward. I’ve been fortunate to be invited to teach workshops and DJ at international dance festivals and congresses nearly every month, traveling around the world to share my love for dance. These global experiences have expanded my understanding of dance cultures and connected me with fellow dance enthusiasts and artists worldwide. In addition to my dance experience, I hold an internationally recognized 2nd Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo from the World Taekwondo Federation (W.T.F.) and am a certified Fitness Instructor. These disciplines have not only shaped my approach to dance but also my ability to teach with precision, confidence, and dedication. I believe that dance is not just an art form—it's a path to holistic wellness, where physical, mental, and emotional growth intertwine. My philosophy is simple: Dance is for everyone. Regardless of age, background, or experience, I firmly believe that dance transcends boundaries. It’s a powerful means of expression, a way to improve physical and mental health, and a medium to forge deep connections with others. Many of my students have shared how dance has brought them joy, alleviated stress, and even strengthened their relationships. Whether you're just starting with two left feet or are already an experienced dancer, I strive to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where you can grow, explore, and enjoy the rhythm of life. The Dance Styles and Cultures I Teach I’ve been fortunate enough to immerse myself in a wide variety of dance styles, each with its own cultural significance and unique rhythm. I teach: Rumba Son Orishas Kizomba Semba Dominican Bachata Tarraxinha Konpa Timba Salsa Cha Cha Cha Zouk Love Merengue Each style brings its own beauty, history, and story to tell. I aim to instill both technical mastery and a deep appreciation for the cultures behind these dances. Teaching And Learning The Arts In Higher Education With Technology written by Joyce Hwee Ling Koh and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-02 with Education categories.

This book is an inquiry about the possibilities of using technology to support the education of artists within higher education contexts. Even though technology-enhanced learning and teaching may seem incongruent with the long-established studio-based cultures of making and performing, it is increasingly becoming a pivotal point to connect artistes to potential audience and markets. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, technology is also the crucial linchpin for educational continuity of student artists. This book explores how technology could enhance the education of artists and designers as they continue to create, make, and add value to life and society through their artistry. It draws upon the experiences of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), a pioneering arts institution in Singapore with over 80 years of institutional history. Through 9 vignettes, this book illustrates technology-enhanced pedagogical practices that have been implemented in different artistic learning spaces including classroom, studio, and stage as well as institutional support strategies. With a naturalistic stance, these chapters seek to illuminate realistic pictures of teaching and learning that are being uncovered by artist educators as they sought to integrate technology within teaching practices using available technologies and within the classes that they are teaching. It is hoped that this book will stimulate conversation among artist educators about possible pedagogical models, as well as inform higher arts institutions about the contextual strategies needed to support the creation of technology-enhanced pedagogical practices.

The resource is a result of collaboration between K-12 teachers, outstanding undergraduate and graduate music education students, and professionals in the field. The lesson ideas, lesson plans, and unit plans are organized according to the six domains posited by Alice Hammel and Ryan Hourigan in their book, Teaching Music to Students with Special Needs: A Label-free Approach, Second Edition. This book equips music educators with understanding necessary to implement teaching ideas into the domains of cognition, communication, behavior, emotions, and physical and sensory needs. Classroom-tested lesson plans include procedure outlines and assessments as well as guides for adaptation, accommodation, and modification needed for successful implementation in K-12 classrooms. Time And The Rhythms Of Emancipatory Education written by Michel Alhadeff-Jones and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-26 with Education categories.

Time and the Rhythms of Emancipatory Education argues that by rethinking the way we relate to time, we can fundamentally rethink the way we conceive education. Beyond the contemporary rhetoric of acceleration, speed, urgency or slowness, this book provides an epistemological, historical and theoretical framework that will serve as a comprehensive resource for critical reflection on the relationship between the experience of time and emancipatory education. Drawing upon time and rhythm studies, complexity theories and educational research, Alhadeff-Jones reflects upon the temporal and rhythmic dimensions of education in order to (re)theorize and address current societal and educational challenges. The book is divided into three parts. The first begins by discussing the specificities inherent to the study of time in educational sciences. The second contextualizes the evolution of temporal constraints that determine the ways education is institutionalized, organized, and experienced. The third and final part questions the meanings of emancipatory education in a context of temporal alienation. This is the first book to provide a broad overview of European and North-American theories that inform both the ideas of time and rhythm in educational sciences, from school instruction, curriculum design and arts education, to vocational training, lifelong learning and educational policies. It will be of key interest to academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of philosophy of education, sociology of education, history of education, psychology, curriculum and learning theory, and adult education. The Open Access version of this book, available at http://www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

Beyond The Academic Gateway written by Timothy Sibbald and has been published by University of Ottawa Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-01 with Education categories.

Tenure is a pivotal decision for the academy. If it is earned, it provides security and permanence, creating further academic freedom to pursue research and interests important to the institution and to society. If it is not earned, then the peer review process provides clarification for why it has not been earned. This book brings together lived experiences of academics around the time of the tenure decision. While the book is stand-alone, it has the same collection of authors who wrote about their tenure-track experiences in The Academic Gateway, making the pair of books a remarkable longitudinal collection. The authors explore the complex relationship between academics, the academy as an ideal, and universities as an enactment of that ideal. Personal growth is evident and shows diversity of experience, as the maturing relationships with the role and workplace unfurl. Where tenure track is a very personal journey, the period around tenure is necessarily a form of engagement with peers. Yet it has challenges, particularly in a milieu where academic freedom is being nurtured. Individual authors negotiate their choices between their personal objectives and institutional mandates and policies. Simultaneously, after years in the tenure-track, they continue to be evolving as academics, whether through personal growth or by seeking changes in the academy itself. Published in English.

Annotation: The Index is published in two physical volumes and sold as a set for $250.00. As America's geography and societal demands expanded, the topics in The Etude magazine (first published in 1883) took on such important issues as women in music; immigration; transportation; Native American and African American composers and their music; World War I and II; public schools; new technologies (sound recordings, radio, and television); and modern music (jazz, gospel, blues, early 20th century composers) in addition to regular book reviews, teaching advice, interviews, biographies, and advertisements. Though a valued source particularly for private music teachers, with the de-emphasis on the professional elite and the decline in salon music, the magazine ceased publication in 1957. This Index to the articles in The Etude serves as a companion to E. Douglas Bomberger's 2004 publication on the music in The Etude. Published a little over fifty years after the final issue reached the public, this Index chronicles vocal and instrumental technique, composer biographies, position openings, department store orchestras, the design of a successful music studio, how to play an accordion, recital programs in music schools, and much more. The Index is a valuable tool for research, particularly in the music culture of American in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. With titles of these articles available, the doors are now open for further research in the years to come.
