The increasing use of technology in our lives requires not only the qualification of young professionals through vocational training in order to maintain innovation and technical and societal progress, but also a technical education “for everyone”, so as to cope with these environments and to become a society with technology literacy. A lack of technology activities may not only result in a “technology illiteracy”, thus making a responsible participation in social life more difficult, but also has an impact on identity development. Against this background, technology education is getting important and has an impact on various aspects of the personality, e.g. skills, knowledge and interest in technology, which initiate lifelong learning. With the combination of articles, the editors of Technology Education Vol. III want to give an insight into international approaches of technology education and its impact. Nine authors, respectively teams of authors from various countries present their educational setting and the impact it has for the personality development in technology.

In one sense, education was always a service industry. This book examines the quality as well as the quantity of contemporary education as it answers the following questions: Are we getting value for money? What makes a good teacher? What sort of education do we want? In the UK in the twentieth century education grew while national income did not. Britain devoted more of its resources to education than any other European nation and yet the UK had the largest proportion of children leaving school at 15 and spent more on each university place than the USA. The author argues that far too little attention was paid to cost-effectiveness analysis and planning. He examines Swedish and American examples and concludes that we must seek and employ the common features of modern management – network analysis, operational research and organizational theory. He also argues that traditional education has to come to terms with the mounting pressures of new curricula and new media.

It developes by actively dealing with technology. A lack of experience may lead to the idea of having poor skills and inapt qualities for the exposure to technology. As a result, interactions will be avoided. To antagonize, technology is taught in different countries in various ways. Even some are starting at primary schools and others are starting at middle school age. Thus, the aim of this publication is to summarize different possibilities of implementations in different countries.

The economic and social developments in the world continually pose new questions to both the social and physical sciences, to the state and to the economy. Currently, the social, natural, and technological fields are particularly impacted by these developments. The facilitation of scientific insights and the utilization of the assembled knowledge of millions of people in their daily work has evolved key questions about the very existence and continuation of society. In a time where almost anything is technically possible, the means of advancing/facilitating (didactics) technological capabilities are being pursued with even more fervor than the actual hunt for new technological capabilities - at least by the most far-seeing nations. In comparison to natural resources, it is a nation's human resources and their combined capability that is infinite. The development of these capabilities was the impetus for this workshop. To this challenge and process, new, hitherto unknown tasks and needs have emerged to energize the dynamic even further. Currently characterizing this search are key words and concepts that include interdisciplinarity, cognitive science, complexity, personal competence, synergistic competence, human resource development, technological literacy, school-industry links (partnerships), private practice partnerships, cognitive apprenticeship, reengineering education, concurrent education, hypermedia, meta-cognition, etc.

Then, he examines what challenges educators will face, how technology will affect school organization, why the K-12 education market is so important, and more.
