Technology Forecast: 2002?2004 is the latest in a series that the PricewaterhouseCoopers Global Technology Centre has published annually for more than a dozen years. This year?s Forecast is being published in two volumes: Volume 1, published in April 2002, focused on enterprise applications and enabling software, while Volume 2 covers thecomputing and communications infrastructure on which those applications run. Each of these books provides an in-depth description of major areas of IT and forecasts significant developments in those areas over the next three years. We are only beginning to understand the global networked computing utility?often referred to as ?The Grid??that the Internet could ultimately become. Ongoing innovations in microprocessors, servers, storage, communications, and other areas will provide a scalable infrastructure based on commodity technologies, eventually by using the aggregated worldwide computing resources of enterprises, service providers, and individuals. At the same time, communications technologies continue to evolve, with 802.11 wireless LANs competing with 3G cellular networks, while new Internet protocols are poised to make innovative communications services as easy to create as Web content.Volume 2: Emerging Patterns of Internet Computing discusses these and other changes underway in IT. The book is divided into three major sections, each highlighting a different area of computing and communications, that together comprise 12 chapters in three sections providing detailed coverage of specific technologies:Processors & Platforms contains chapters on semiconductors; embedded processors; traditional computing platforms, including systems from notebook computers to supercomputers and the operating systems that run on them; storage;displays; and emerging platforms, including mobile handheld devices, consumer Internet access devices, and telematics.Communications comprises chapters on elecommunications services, including the transition currently under way to widespread use of Voice-over-IP; wireless communications, including 2.5G and 3G cellular systems and 802.11 wirelessLANs; wireline communications, including Resilient Packet Rings and metropolitan area Ethernet; and Internet technologies, including quality of service and the session initiation protocol (SIP).Web Application Management includes chapters on Website performance and availability and on system management. The book features interviews with four leading figures in IT: -Judy Estrin, president and CEO of Packet Design. -Prof. Leonard Kleinrock of UCLA?s Computer Science department.-Dr. Richard F. Rashid, senior vice president of research at Microsoft.-Dr. Irving Wladawsky-Berger, vice president for technology and strategy in IBM?s Server Group.

Recent Trends And Advances In Artificial Intelligence And Internet Of Things written by Valentina E. Balas and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book covers all the emerging trends in artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The Internet of Things is a term that has been introduced in recent years to define devices that are able to connect and transfer data to other devices via the Internet. While IoT and sensors have the ability to harness large volumes of data, AI can learn patterns in the data and quickly extract insights in order to automate tasks for a variety of business benefits. Machine learning, an AI technology, brings the ability to automatically identify patterns and detect anomalies in the data that smart sensors and devices generate, and it can have significant advantages over traditional business intelligence tools for analyzing IoT data, including being able to make operational predictions up to 20 times earlier and with greater accuracy than threshold-based monitoring systems. Further, other AI technologies, such as speech recognition and computer vision can help extract insights from data that used to require human review. The powerful combination of AI and IoT technology is helping to avoid unplanned downtime, increase operating efficiency, enable new products and services, and enhance risk management.

Cellular written by Daniel D. Garcia-Swartz and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-18 with Business & Economics categories.

Tracks the evolution of the international cellular industry from the late 1970s to the present. The development of the mobile-phone industry into what we know today required remarkable cooperation between companies, governments, and industrial sectors. Companies developing cellular infrastructure, cellular devices, cellular network services, and eventually software and mobile semiconductors had to cooperate, not simply compete, with each other. In this global history of the mobile-phone industry, Daniel D. Garcia-Swartz and Martin Campbell-Kelly examine its development in the United States, Europe, Japan, and several emerging economies, including China and India. They present the evolution of mobile phones from the perspective of vendors of telephone equipment and network operators, users whose lives have been transformed by mobile phones, and governments that have fostered specific mobile-phone standards. Cellular covers the technical aspects of the cellphone, as well as its social and political impact. Beginning with the 1980s, the authors trace the development of closed (proprietary) and open (available to all) cellular standards, the impact of network effects as cellular adoption increased, major technological changes affecting mobile phone hardware, and the role of national governments in shaping the industry. The authors also consider the changing roles that cellular phones have played in the everyday lives of people around the world and the implications 5G technology may have for the future. Finally, they offer statistics on how quickly the cellular industry grew in different regions of the world and how firms competed in those various markets. Cellular is published in the History of Computing Series. This distinguished series has played a major role in defining scholarship in the history of computing. Hallmarks of the series are its technical detail and interpretation of primary source materials.

This book presents original contributions on the theories and practices of emerging Internet, Data and Web technologies and their applications in businesses, engineering and academia. As a key feature, it addresses advances in the life-cycle exploitation of data generated by digital ecosystem technologies. The Internet has become the most proliferative platform for emerging large-scale computing paradigms. Among these, Data and Web technologies are two of the most prominent paradigms, manifesting in a variety of forms such as Data Centers, Cloud Computing, Mobile Cloud, Mobile Web Services, and so on. These technologies altogether create a digital ecosystem whose cornerstone is the data cycle, from capturing to processing, analysis and visualization. The need to investigate various research and development issues in this digital ecosystem has been made even more pressing by the ever-increasing demands of real-life applications, which are based on storing and processing large amounts of data. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable asset for all researchers, software developers, practitioners and students interested in the field of Data and Web technologies.

The History Present State And Future Of Information Technology written by Andrew Targowski and has been published by Informing Science this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with categories.

In Part I, Prof. Targowski takes us through the evolution of modern computing and information systems. While much of this material is familiar to those of us who have lived through these developments, it would definitely not be familiar to our children or our students. He also introduces a perspective that I found both refreshing and useful: looking at the evolution on a country by country basis. For those of us who live in the U.S., it is all too easy to imagine that evolution to be a purely local phenomenon. I found my appreciation of the truly global nature of computing expanding as he walked me through each country’s contributions. In Parts II and III, constituting nearly half of the book, Targowski provides what I would describe as an in-depth case study of the challenges and successes of informatics in Poland. As he tells each story—many of which involved him personally—the reader cannot help but better understand the close relationship between the freedoms that we in the west take for granted and the ability to produce innovations in IT. Even after Poland left the orbit of the former Soviet Union, the remaining vestiges of the old way of thinking remained a major impediment to progress. Being right and being rigorous were far less important than being in tune with the “approved” ways of thinking. There are important lessons to be learned here, particularly as we try to project how IT will evolve in rapidly developing economies such as China. But, from my experience, they apply equally well to western academia, where moving outside of preferred values and patterns of research can lead a scholar to be ignored or even disparaged. In Part IV, Targowski presents a bold, forward-looking synthesis of informatics and informing science in the future. Building upon articles recently published in Informing Science: The International Journal of an Emerging Transdiscipline, he presents a conceptual scheme of historical informing waves that builds upon historians such as Toynbee. He then considers how these trends will necessarily force us to rethink how we develop and apply IT. He does not steer away from the controversial. But he also provides cogent arguments for all his predictions and recommendations.
