The present report summarizes the progress, challenges and achievements of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) member States from 2005 to 2015 in achieving the Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Many ECE member States now have ESD policies and frameworks in place to support ESD implementation. Hundreds of initiatives have been launched to integrate ESD into the content and processes of formal, non-formal and informal education, moving from policy to practice. However, the challenge of integrating ESD system-wide across all aspects and levels of formal, non-formal and informal learning still remains. The report reviews the data collected through national implementation reports submitted by member States at the end of the third phase of the Strategy, as well as supplemental information provided by member States to the ECE secretariat through annual informal national reports and reports of ECE Steering Committee for ESD working groups. It also reflects on progress as compared to the first and second evaluation reports for 2007 and 2010. The primary audience is education and environment decision-makers and educators.

Implementation Of The Unece Strategy For Esd Across The Ece Region 2015 2018 written by UNITED NATIONS. and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022 with categories.

The present document provides a summary of the progress made by the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) and the United Nations Member States in implementing the ECE Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) during the implementation phase 2017-2019 (also referred to as the “implementation phase IV”). The present synthesis report is based on the analysis of 34 national implementation reports submitted by Member States for that phase. The national implementation reports, reveal that many countries have policies in place to support ESD but the challenge remains of coordinating those policies and increasing the number of countries with national implementation plans for ESD, as observed during the previous implementation phases. Many countries have expanded policies to the non-formal and informal sectors, encouraged synergies and involved various stakeholders in ESD. However, the 'whole-institution approach' needs to be re-examined and further implemented in the context of some countries, mainly in relation to incentives and policies. In almost all countries, educators reported having received training on ESD competences during pre- and in-service training. Tools and materials for ESD are widely produced through national strategies and investment of public money, but more needs to be done in terms of dissemination and accessibility of materials and the establishment of quality control criteria. Many Governments recognize the need to connect research to ESD policy and practice. Concerning the promotion of research and development, the weakest element is the evaluation of the Strategy's outcomes.

Competences In Education For Sustainable Development written by Paul Vare and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-02 with Science categories.

This volume highlights key moments and movements in this "competence turn" in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and explores the different ways in which competences have been conceptualized and implemented. By marshaling a dialogue between chapters and sections, the book provides a coherent whole that will become a key source on ESD competences. The contributors develop a conceptual map against which to chart existing (and future) ESD competence frameworks, offer new critical case studies that explore the implementation of educator competences in ESD at different structural levels in different European contexts, explore the link between pedagogy and educator competence through hitherto unpublished case studies based on current practices across Europe, and consider the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ESD and educator competence. The book comprises 23 chapters divided into four sections, with an introduction and concluding chapter. Section One introduces concepts and models related to ESD competences, while the following two sections focus on implementation and pedagogy. In light of the foregoing material, the shorter Section Four is both reflective and forward looking. The primary audience for this book will be academics and students working in the fields of Education, Sustainability Science and related disciplines.

Featuring chapters written by experts throughout Europe, the book first provides a general overview of ESD in various contexts, including the state-of-the-art of ESD theory and conceptual development; political and social analysis; the various concepts of ESD competencies; and teacher training. Next, the book details how ESD has been implemented in different European countries and regions, including: Sweden, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Catalonia, Hungary, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Flanders, France, Cyprus, UK and the Netherlands. In recognition of education as a motor of change, the United Nations General Assembly declared a Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), calling for the integration of sustainable development into all aspects of education and learning. Inside this book, readers will find details on what has been done, as well as assessments of what more could be done, across Europe. It will help readers gain valuable insights into how to help students develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to shape a sustainable future.

Universities As Living Labs For Sustainable Development written by Walter Leal Filho and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-30 with Science categories.

This book fills an important gap in the literature, and presents contributions from scientists and researchers working in the field of sustainable development who have engaged in dynamic approaches to implementing sustainability in higher education. It is widely known that universities are key players in terms of the implementation and further development of sustainability, with some having the potential of acting as “living labs” in this rapidly growing field. Yet there are virtually no publications that explore the living labs concept as it relates to sustainability, and in an integrated manner. The aims of this book, which is an outcome of the “4th World Symposium on Sustainable Development at Universities” (WSSD-U-2018), held in Malaysia in 2018, are as follows: i. to document the experiences of universities from all around the world in curriculum innovation, research, activities and practical projects as they relate to sustainable development at the university level; ii. to disseminate information, ideas and experiences acquired in the execution of projects, including successful initiatives and good practice; iii. to introduce and discuss methodological approaches and projects that seek to integrate the topic of sustainable development in the curricula of universities; and iv. to promote the scalability of existing and future models from universities as living labs for sustainable development. The papers are innovative, cross-cutting and many reflect practice-based experiences, some of which may be replicable elsewhere. Also, this book, prepared by the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP) and the World Sustainable Development Research and Transfer Centre (WSD-RTC), reinforces the role played by universities as living labs for sustainable development.
