Five technical papers covering the development of a set of techniques for measuring the tensile properties of thin films are gathered here. Also included are drawings of the mechanical components of the apparatus and listings of two computer programs. Additional necessary parts include a computer, instrumentation, two piezoelectric stacks, and an appropriate platform equipped with a microscope. Piezoelectric stacks are used as actuators. Noncontacting eddy-current displacement sensors measure both the tensile displacement and the force.Closed-loop feedback control allows a variety of test programs. The maximum available displacement is about 50 um, and the maximum available force is about 0.3 N. The resolution of displacement is about 25 nm, and the resolution of force is about 100 uN. Cyclic loading has been demonstrated for cycles as short as 20 s.

The Hardness Of Metals written by David Tabor and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-08-03 with Science categories.
This book is an attempt to explain hardness measurements of metals in terms of some of their more basic physical properties. The intention is to provide, for physicists, engineers, and metallurgists, a better understanding of what hardness means and what hardness measurements imply. The author emphasises the physical concepts involved, so that non-mathematical readers can grasp and appreciate the general physical picture without needing to follow the more detailed mathematical treatment.

Reliability Of Mems written by Osamu Tabata and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-08 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This edition of 'Reliability of MEMS' was originally published in the successful series 'Advanced Micro & Nanosystems'. Here, one of the most important hurdles to commercialization for microelectromechanical systems is covered in detail: the reliability of MEMS materials and devices. Due to their microscale size combined with novel functionalities, a whole new category of challenges arises, and proper determination of a given device's reliability is instrumental in determining its range of usability and application fields. Any kind of gadget's performance, lifetime and safety will depend on the continued and predictable functioning of both the electronic as well as the micromechanical parts. MEMS reliability therefore can be as serious as human life-and-death matters - quite literally in the case of roll-over sensors for cars, for example.

Thoroughly revised and updated, the new edition of the best-selling MEMS Handbook is now presented as a three-volume set that offers state-of-the-art coverage of microelectromechanical systems. The first volume, MEMS: Introduction and Fundamentals builds the required background and explores various physical considerations of MEMS. Topics include scaling, simulation models, the basics of control theory, and the physics of materials flow, thin liquid films, and bubble/drop transport. New chapters in this edition address lattice Boltzmann simulations and microscale hydrodynamics. Standing well on its own, this books builds an outstanding foundation for further exploration of MEMS and their applications.
