Applying The Rasch Model In Social Sciences Using R written by Iasonas Lamprianou and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-12 with Psychology categories.

This unique text provides a step-by-step beginner’s guide to applying the Rasch model in R, a probabilistic model used by researchers across the social sciences to measure unobservable ("latent") variables. Each chapter is devoted to one popular Rasch model, ranging from the least to the most complex. Through a freely available and user-friendly package, BlueSky Statistics, Lamprianou offers a range of options for presenting results, critically examines the strengths and weaknesses of applying the Rasch model in each instance, and suggests more effective methodologies where applicable. With a focus on simple software code which does not assume extensive mathematical knowledge, the reader is initially introduced to the so-called simple Rasch Model to construct a "political activism" variable out of a group of dichotomously scored questions. In subsequent chapters, the book covers everything from the Rating Scale to the Many-facets Rasch model. The final chapter even showcases a complete mock manuscript, demonstrating how a Rasch-based paper on the identification of online hate speech should look like. Combining theoretical rigor and real-world examples with empirical datasets from published papers, this book is essential reading for students and researchers alike who aspire to use Rasch models in their research.

Edge computational intelligence is an interface between edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This interfacing represents a paradigm shift in the world of work by enabling a broad application areas and customer-friendly solutions. Edge computational intelligence technologies are just in their infancy. Edge Computational Intelligence for AI-Enabled IoT Systems looks at the trends and advances in edge computing and edge AI, the services rendered by them, related security and privacy issues, training algorithms, architectures, and sustainable AI-enabled IoT systems. Together, these technologies benefit from ultra-low latency, faster response times, lower bandwidth costs and resilience from network failure, and the book explains the advantages of systems and applications using intelligent IoT devices that are at the edge of a network and close to users. It explains how to make most of edge and cloud computing as complementary technologies or used in isolation for extensive and widespread applications. The advancement in IoT devices, networking facilities, parallel computation and 5G, and robust infrastructure for generalized machine learning have made it possible to employ edge computational intelligence in diverse areas and in diverse ways. The book begins with chapters that cover Edge AI services on offer as compared to conventional systems. These are followed by chapters that discuss security and privacy issues encountered during the implementation and execution of edge AI and computing services The book concludes with chapters looking at applications spread across different areas of edge AI and edge computing and also at the role of computational intelligence in AI-driven IoT systems.

Participatory Sensing Opinions And Collective Awareness written by Vittorio Loreto and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-13 with Science categories.

This book introduces and reviews recent advances in the field in a comprehensive and non-technical way by focusing on the potential of emerging citizen-science and social-computation frameworks, coupled with the latest theoretical and modeling tools developed by physicists, mathematicians, computer and social scientists to analyse, interpret and visualize complex data sets. There is overwhelming evidence that the current organisation of our economies and societies is seriously damaging biological ecosystems and human living conditions in the short term, with potentially catastrophic effects in the long term. The need to re-organise the daily activities with the greatest impact – energy consumption, transport, housing – towards a more efficient and sustainable development model has recently been raised in the public debate on several global, environmental issues. Above all, this requires the mismatch between global, societal and individual needs to be addressed. Recent advances in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can trigger important transitions at the individual and collective level to achieve this aim. Based on the findings of the collaborative research network EveryAware the following developments among the emerging ICT technologies are discussed in depth in this volume: • Participatory sensing – where ICT development is pushed to the level where it can support informed action at the hyperlocal scale, providing capabilities for environmental monitoring, data aggregation and mining, as well as information presentation and sharing. • Web gaming, social computing and internet-mediated collaboration – where the Web will continue to acquire the status of an infrastructure for social computing, allowing users’ cognitive abilities to be coordinated in online communities, and steering the collective action towards predefined goals. • Collective awareness and decision-making – where the access to both personal and community data, collected by users, processed with suitable analysis tools, and re-presented in an appropriate format by usable communication interfaces leads to a bottom-up development of collective social strategies.
