What does it take for a regular guy to climb some of the highest mountains in the world? Five Big Mountains takes you there, instantly placing the reader and the author on a steep glacier on Pico de Orizaba with equipment trouble and the tough decision any high altitude climber inevitably faces-should he turn back or keep going to the summit? The central theme of the book is that with proper preparation, careful planning, persistent training, and the best guides, even an amateur with little mountaineering experience can climb and reach the summits of some of the most famous mountains in the world, though there are risks involved that need to be minimized. Written in the first person, Five Big Mountains takes the reader into the mind of a regular guy trying to reach the summit of four of the famous Seven Summits, as well as his first high-altitude climb of a steep, glaciated Mexican volcano. The book tells what climbing is really like, the struggles and the triumphs, the emotions and the dangers, moment by moment. The reader is taken to Russia, Africa, Antarctica, South America, and Mexico. Along the way, the reader is able to travel with and discover the local flavor of each exotic or not so exotic venue. Color photos help the reader to visualize the glorious majesty of the peaks, but the narrative provides the nitty-gritty of the author's daily challenges on the mountains.

Two experts who have summited the tallest mountains on each of the seven continents—and scaled the highest peaks in corporate sales—examine what it takes to achieve sales success, drawing on the techniques and determination it takes to climb the world’s highest peaks. When Susan Ershler and John Waechter each made the grueling journey to the top of Mount Everest, they were motivated by the desire to join the elite group of climbers that had conquered the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. It was this same determination that made them star performers in corporate sales, one of the toughest jobs in global business. They both cherish the deep satisfaction that only comes from attaining a seemingly impossible goal through focus, determination, and persistence. In this unique and inspiring guide, Susan and John draw on their experiences to inspire sales professionals to overcome their perceived limitations and reach new heights of success, illustrating how any sales professional can achieve peak performance. Interweaving concrete, tested methods for high achievement in sales, with stories of harrowing climbs and perseverance, Conquering the Seven Summits of Sales proves that anyone can experience the tremendous sense of closure and satisfaction that comes with overcoming perceived limitations and achieve something real and meaningful.

Making It Happen written by Rebecca Stephens MBE and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-25 with Business & Economics categories.

“An inspiring and informative read” - Financial Times Shortlisted for the Business Book Awards 2022 In Making It Happen, Rebecca Stephens argues that the successful implementation of strategy often comes down to one individual – an individual with a clear, unswerving commitment to the cause, coupled with excellent leadership and communication skills. We all have the power within us to create change and get things done, even against the odds. With a variety of case studies and an eclectic selection of interviewees, this book champions diversity of thought and the importance of gleaning practical and actionable insights from a broad array of perspectives and experiences. And making things happen is more important now than ever. Virtually every organization, institution and business is in desperate need of a practical and actionable strategy to find their way through these difficult times with minimal disruption. According to the Project Management Institute, 37% of projects fail due to the lack of defined project objectives and milestones. Yet there are rare exceptions to this widespread failure to effectively strategize. This book tells the stories of individuals whose extraordinary efforts and persistence have resulted in successful strategy execution. Interestingly, most have effected change not just to the benefit of themselves or their organization, but to broader society too. And most work in organizations that are typically steeped in tradition and resistant to change: the civil service, the UN, the medical industry, education, financial services, and long-established multi-national corporations. Rebecca Stephens interviews these individuals and uncovers the secrets behind their success, while also drawing upon her own eclectic experiences in implementing strategy – from both her corporate and journalism career and her time as a revered mountaineer. Making it Happen demonstrates that it's a sense of purpose, conviction and optimism – combined with strong commitment and the ability to influence and persuade – that leads to the successful implementation and execution of strategy.

How my dream to climb the seven continental summits (Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Aconcagua, McKinley, Vinson, Everest, Kosciuszko) and Cho Oyu transformed into the quest to bring clean drinking water to those in need in the Northern Province of Uganda. In 2010 I set out to climb Everest from the north side and complete climbing the seven summits (climbing to the highest point of every continent). During my training in the Himalaya, I discovered the water crisis and it changed me. It was then in 2009 when I fell ill with dysentery on Cho Oyu, forcing me to turn back during my attempt to reach the 6th highest peak on the planet. During the time I was sick, I experienced what other people without clean drinking water experience on a regular basis. Upon my return home to Munich, I dedicated my climb of Everest to the water crisis and founded a 501(c)3 entity in the USA. I focused an entire year of my life to reaching the highest point on the planet and creating an all-volunteer organisation with the goal to provide clean drinking water to the people of northern Uganda. What was originally a personal goal turned into a quest to deliver clean drinking water to the thirsty millions of war-stricken northern Uganda. Through this story, the charity, Global H2O was born.

On May 16, 2002, Phil and Susan Ershler reached the top of Mt. Everest and became the first couple in history to scale the fabled Seven Summits. What made their achievement all the more remarkable was that Susan was not a mountain climber, but a high-powered Fortune 500 executive who had never hiked or climbed until she met Phil at the age of 36. Phil, a professional mountain guide who was the first American to summit Everest from its treacherous north face, had climbed his whole life with Crohn's disease, a chronic, debilitating illness. Adding to these challenges, just before their final summit, Phil was diagnosed with colon cancer, and the resulting surgeries and complications were expected to end his career. This is Susan and Phil's story: a tale of love set in the mountains, a story of triumphal highs and devastating lows in quest of a seemingly impossible dream.
