There's an ancient power in the woods, resting and waiting. As the solstice grows nearer and nearer, the Islanders know to guard the females and the children, for in the night, teeth can look just like petals and the red eyes can be mistaken for a beautiful rose. For years the forest has been in a silent pact with the Islanders. Everyone knows that something is waiting in that forest, but no one understood why they were never attacked. The villagers were contempt with their lives and were oblivious to what was about to happen this Buck moon until one day... “You should not mess with him girl, he is dangerous. There’s a reason they call him a devil.” He said and I could see the pity and sympathy in his eyes. Well, I don’t need his sympathy or his pity. “I will mess with him, I will make him chew his words. He’s going to regret what he did with me and my family. So what if they call him the devil, he doesn’t know what I am capable of.” I replied with determination.

The butt of jokes in school, he is nothing but a laughing-stock until a visit to a local tarot shop turns his life upside-down. The psychic's strange prediction thrusts him into a mysterious world of ghastly creatures and bizarre events, and he must come to terms with the abrupt changes if he is going to survive. One mother's plea for help presents him with an impossible challenge, but it also brings him closer to the most popular girl in school. Brian must overcome threats from all sides to honor his promise, and he is determined to succeed. His heart won't let him turn his back on someone in need, especially when he's fallen in love with her. Protecting Shannon McKesson soon becomes the greatest purpose of his life. Model Free Prediction And Regression written by Dimitris N. Politis and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-13 with Mathematics categories.

The Model-Free Prediction Principle expounded upon in this monograph is based on the simple notion of transforming a complex dataset to one that is easier to work with, e.g., i.i.d. or Gaussian. As such, it restores the emphasis on observable quantities, i.e., current and future data, as opposed to unobservable model parameters and estimates thereof, and yields optimal predictors in diverse settings such as regression and time series. Furthermore, the Model-Free Bootstrap takes us beyond point prediction in order to construct frequentist prediction intervals without resort to unrealistic assumptions such as normality. Prediction has been traditionally approached via a model-based paradigm, i.e., (a) fit a model to the data at hand, and (b) use the fitted model to extrapolate/predict future data. Due to both mathematical and computational constraints, 20th century statistical practice focused mostly on parametric models. Fortunately, with the advent of widely accessible powerful computing in the late 1970s, computer-intensive methods such as the bootstrap and cross-validation freed practitioners from the limitations of parametric models, and paved the way towards the `big data' era of the 21st century. Nonetheless, there is a further step one may take, i.e., going beyond even nonparametric models; this is where the Model-Free Prediction Principle is useful. Interestingly, being able to predict a response variable Y associated with a regressor variable X taking on any possible value seems to inadvertently also achieve the main goal of modeling, i.e., trying to describe how Y depends on X. Hence, as prediction can be treated as a by-product of model-fitting, key estimation problems can be addressed as a by-product of being able to perform prediction. In other words, a practitioner can use Model-Free Prediction ideas in order to additionally obtain point estimates and confidence intervals for relevant parameters leading to an alternative, transformation-based approach to statistical inference.

Describes statistical intervals to quantify sampling uncertainty, focusing on key application needs and recently developed methodology in an easy-to-apply format Statistical intervals provide invaluable tools for quantifying sampling uncertainty. The widely hailed first edition, published in 1991, described the use and construction of the most important statistical intervals. Particular emphasis was given to intervals—such as prediction intervals, tolerance intervals and confidence intervals on distribution quantiles—frequently needed in practice, but often neglected in introductory courses. Vastly improved computer capabilities over the past 25 years have resulted in an explosion of the tools readily available to analysts. This second edition—more than double the size of the first—adds these new methods in an easy-to-apply format. In addition to extensive updating of the original chapters, the second edition includes new chapters on: Likelihood-based statistical intervals Nonparametric bootstrap intervals Parametric bootstrap and other simulation-based intervals An introduction to Bayesian intervals Bayesian intervals for the popular binomial, Poisson and normal distributions Statistical intervals for Bayesian hierarchical models Advanced case studies, further illustrating the use of the newly described methods New technical appendices provide justification of the methods and pathways to extensions and further applications. A webpage directs readers to current readily accessible computer software and other useful information. Statistical Intervals: A Guide for Practitioners and Researchers, Second Edition is an up-to-date working guide and reference for all who analyze data, allowing them to quantify the uncertainty in their results using statistical intervals.

With a foreword by John T. Queenan, MD, Professor and Chair Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington. Fetal medicine has emerged as a separate subspecialty over the last 30 years as a result of major advances in a number of areas, in particular ultrasound imaging, cytogenetics, molecular biology and biochemistry. The widespread use of antenatal screening and diagnostic tests has led to an increased need for obstetricians to have knowledge and skills in fetal medicine. This book provides the information that underpins training programmes in fetal medicine and integrates science and clinical disciplines in a practical and useful way. Basic science sections provide clinicians with a vital introduction to the new language of science that will help them understand new and development treatment options. Clinical sections include: the latest advances in prenatal screening; a systems-based presentation of the diagnosis and management of fetal malformations; complete coverage of common and rare fetal conditions including growth restriction, endocrine and platelet disorders, early pregnancy loss, and twins/multiple pregnancy. Highly illustrated with over 500 ultrasound scans and line drawings. International team of expert contributors. Features new self-assessment section. Written by an international team of experts. Shorter, more focused on fetal medicine Clinical sections written in an up-to-date, problem-based style Case studies and vignettes to illustrate clinical points More focus on important basic-science concepts, such as maternofetal cell trafficking, and the relevance to clinical management Expansion of information on bereavement due to fetal loss New self-assessment section

This chapter presents an environmental application of DSmT for the land cover prediction. The spatial prediction of land cover at the field scale in winter is useful to reduce the bare soils in agricultural intensive regions. Fusion process with the Dempster-Shafer theory (DST) proved to have limitations with the increase of conflict between the sources of evidence that support land cover hypotheses. Several modifications may be used such as source weighting or the hedging methods, but with no benefit in the considered case studied since the conflict may not explain by itself all the bad decisions.

The flow of gravity currents and intrusions is a subject of active research and engineering application. Currently, there are no formal teaching courses for this topic. Materials and information available in the market are scattered and dated. Researchers and engineers face difficulties in acquiring the 'state-of-the-art' knowledge. The book bridges this gap between the need and supply of the relevant insight and know-how.Written by a renowned author who is a recognized authority in the field, this unique compendium assembles the relevant knowledge into a systematic and unified framework. The presentation is gradual from the elementary to the frontier, and accessible to readers with only a basic background in fluid mechanics and applied mathematics. This will facilitate the systematic acquirement and application of available knowledge to both practical problems and further research. This must-have volume is a useful monograph — that can also serve as a textbook in advanced courses — for researchers, students, engineers and applied mathematicians in the fields of civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, mechanical engineering, ocean engineering and environmental engineering.
