The Longings And Limits Of Global Citizenship Education written by Jeffrey S. Dill and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-18 with Education categories.

As the world seemingly gets smaller and smaller, schools around the globe are focusing their attention on expanding the consciousness and competencies of their students to prepare them for the conditions of globalization. Global citizenship education is rapidly growing in popularity because it captures the longings of so many—to help make a world of prosperity, universal benevolence, and human rights in the midst of globalization’s varied processes of change. This book offers an empirical account from the perspective of teachers and classrooms, based on a qualitative study of ten secondary schools in the United States and Asia that explicitly focus on making global citizens. Global citizenship in these schools has two main elements, both global competencies (economic skills) and global consciousness (ethical orientations) that proponents hope will bring global prosperity and peace. However, many of the moral assumptions of global citizenship education are more complex and contradict these goals, and are just as likely to have the unintended consequence of reinforcing a more particular Western individualism. While not arguing against global citizenship education per se, the book argues that in its current forms it has significant limits that proponents have not yet acknowledged, which may very well undermine it in the long run.

While English has become the lingua franca in science, business, and other fields, scholars still grapple with the implications of its adoption in many other settings and cultures. To what extent should English be introduced and taught in schools around the world? Who “owns” the English language and can therefore shape its structure and aims? What are world Englishes and how can teachers demonstrate them to their students? Is English the language of the oppressor, an imperialist tool, or does global English offer an opportunity for greater understanding and cooperation amongst peoples and cultures? This volume of critical essays explores these and other questions surrounding language, education, and culture in the globalized world. Honoring students’ cultures while trying to prepare them for an uncertain and constantly changing future is the resounding theme of this book. The contributors to this volume are as multi-cultural and multi-faceted as such a volume would demand. The essays include authors and studies from Algeria, India, Iran, Ghana, Germany, Poland, Tunisia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Yemen. The perspectives offered in this volume contribute greatly to the ongoing conversations on language, education, and globalization.

Since the introduction of BRI, China organised the inaugural One Belt One Road Summit and the Second Belt and Road Forum to spur the implementation of the Initiative.President Xi emphasised that the Belt and Road projects should uphold the principles of shared benefits and joint contributions to realise the vision of a high-quality, open, green and clean BRI. Host countries can possibly gain from China's greenfield manufacturing investments to expand the BRI markets.Contributed by academics and business professionals from Asia, Europe and Africa, the chapters discuss the contemporary people, business, civil society and government developments related to the BRI and explore Health, Environment and Security (HES) challenges that confront the Initiative. Are you looking for alternative streams of revenue for your business, low-hanging-fruit opportunities, and better profit margins? According to McKinsey, a dozen or so emerging economies will collectively have an annual GDP of more than 20 trillion USD by 2020, exceeding that of the United States. In 2015, developing economies will account for more than half of the world's annual GDP. And the largest consumer markets of the next generation can be found in emerging markets like China, India, and Africa. With figures like these, "going global," particularly to emerging markets can present the opportunities for which you are looking? As markets in developed countries stagnate, slow, dwindle, or reach saturation, companies are looking for new horizons to sustain them in the next generation economy. This is no less true for entrepreneurs and SMEs. While going global has become a business imperative and entrepreneurs and SMEs look for new opportunities like larger firms, questions arise around how? How do we go global? How do we tap into markets far away with limited resources? How will going global make a difference? How long should we wait before going global?Going Global on a Dime answers the "how" of going global from both a strategic and practical approach, focusing on new and existing firms considering or just starting the going global process. It re-wires the framework for going global so firms can navigate the course dynamically while minimizing costs, managing and maximizing cash flow and return on investment, streamlining processes, and keeping the "small" firm ready to take advantage of profitable opportunities.

As part of its ‘going out’ strategy, China is using the media to promote its views and vision to the wider world and to counter negative images in the US-dominated international media. China’s Media Go Global, the first edited collection on this subject, evaluates how the unprecedented expansion of Chinese media and communications is changing the global media landscape and the role of China within it. Each chapter examines a different dimension of Chinese media’s globalization, from newspapers, radio, film and television, to social media and journalism. Topics include the rise of Chinese news networks, China Daily as an instrument of China’s public diplomacy and the discussion around the growth of China’s state media in Africa. Other chapters discuss entertainment television, financial media and the advertising market in China. Together, this collection of essays offers a comprehensive evaluation of complex debates concerning the impact of China on the international media landscape, and makes a distinctive addition to Chinese media studies, as well as to broader global media discourses. Beyond its primary readership among academics and students, China’s Media Go Global is aimed at the growing constituency of general readers, for whom the role of the media in globalization is of wider interest.
